05 The Role: S&P Global Commodity Insights is seeking candidates for our 10-week internship program within our Upstream Business Management team which is part of our IMPACT Program. IMPACT (Innovative Mentoring and Professional Acceleration in Commodities) is one of our many programs within Commodity Insights aimed at developing early career talent globally. The internship program will run from June 3rd to August 9th.

The Team: The Upstream Business Management team is seeking an Intern. This team works within Commodity Insights to advance the development and application of subsurface software tools and data science projects. The team is responsible for leveraging technological innovations in subsurface data science, interpretation, characterization and simulation , and developing new technologies that deliver enhanced value to our customers.

Location: US Remote

Responsibilities:
  • This project will involve understanding the specific challenges our customers face, suggesting new ways in which ML and other techniques could be used to solve those challenges and working to prototype and implement those solutions.
  • Own a project from ideation to implementation, under the guidance of a team to further seismic interpretation workflows with ML.
  • Document processes and contributes to the development of business cases for subsurface software applications.
What We're Looking For:
  • Self-starter who enjoys the process of identifying new technologies , playing around on sample datasets and dreaming up creative ways to apply them to the energy sector.
  • Strong Python skills and ideally a working knowledge of Keras and Tensorflow .
  • Demonstrated understanding of seismic interpretation workflows.
  • F am i liarity with machine learning and geophysics algorithms or applications such as: deep learning, computer vision, optimization, denoising, signal processing or time-series analysis .
  • Ability to work with large datasets and strong skills in software relevant to subsurface analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and navigate complex project requirements.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills at all levels of business.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Pursuing a n advanced degree in geoscience, petroleum engineering, computer science, or a related field; PhD or graduate degree preferred.
