Morningstar is seeking a Senior Team Leader to join the Fixed Income Data & Analytics team. The Senior Team Leader is part of the team responsible for developing critical data and analytics solutions in fixed income that will be used by Morningstar’s entire product landscape. As a successful candidate, you will take an active part in the development of new data and analytics solutions that address real client needs.
In this role, you will be asked to gather and interpret data requirements, perform research and analysis, as well as to work on data mappings from multiple sources. Based on financial engineering knowledge, the Senior Team Leader will write Python backend engines / systems that will be integrated and implemented by development teams.
This position would also be expected to lead key fixed income data and analytics projects within Morningstar that require partnering with product and other data teams in order to develop the fixed income roadmap at Morningstar.
Responsibilities:
- Hands-on development of backend Python systems will be an integral part of the responsibilities. Research, design, execute, test and document fixed income engines. Liaise between business, implementation, and fixed income teams. Develop new solutions to improve Morningstar product offerings. Developing insights on large scale data requiring data cleaning and statistical analysis as needed Communicating results to rating analysts, senior management, and other key stakeholders.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in backend Python development (beyond simple Jupiter notebooks) Highly proficient with PyCharm (or other full suite IDE) In-depth knowledge of Object Oriented / Functional Programming principles Demonstrated dedication to detailed code documentation and testing (Pytest, unittest) Experience with Git At least basic financial engineering skills and experience At least basic knowledge of fixed income markets and securities Highly proficient with SQL (MySQL, Postgres, MariaDB, MS Access etc) Highly proficient with database design, creation, population and troubleshooting Ability to ‘follow the data’ from ingestion to client facing products. Able to work under tight deadlines and handle pressure during peak seasons. Exhibit flexibility as per business requirement Excellent written and verbal communication skills Committed team player.
Key skills: Python, fixed income, statistical modelling, predictive modelling, regression modelling.
Education
- At least a BSc in Math, Physics, Engineering, Stats, Computer Sci, or Quant Finance Highly Valued In-depth knowledge of Fixed Income and Capital Markets CFA or progress towards completion Independent personal Git projects (with link). Any subjects of interest.
