Job Description Summary
Responsible for providing strategic technical accounting advice to controllership, finance, actuarial and business leaders across NALH to ensure transactions are in compliance with US GAAP, Statutory, IFRS and other industry-specific regulations. Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting matters pertaining to NALH. This position reports to the NALH Chief Accounting Officer.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Serve as subject matter expert regarding accounting policies and technical issues while maintaining a holistic mindset to support NALH initiatives.
  • Responsible for setting policy through interpretation of US GAAP and compliance with GE policy, provides technical support to the finance, investment, actuarial and risk communities, and drives accounting compliance with the operations teams. Responsible for the application of statutory and IFRS standards.
  • Leads others to find creative solutions to address complex problems that may impact the organization. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • Monitor external insurance and accounting developments that potentially impact NALH financial goals, processes, and financial reporting and disclosure requirements
  • Support establishment of new regulatory standards as they become effective, driving implementation of technical compliance and ongoing support of regulatory initiatives
  • Provide technical controllership oversight to ensure integrity of financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP/statutory/IFRS and GE/NALH accounting policies, applicable laws, and regulations.
  • Responsible for oversight of financial reporting disclosure and review of quarterly and annual SEC and statutory/regulatory filings, including management review meetings and supplemental financial reporting schedules.
  • May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business solutions to leaders in functional area. Communicates complex messages and negotiates mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influences peers to take action and may negotiate with external partners or vendors.
  • Leads others to find creative solutions to address complex problems that may impact the organization. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • Assist in simplification efforts of the business and other ad hoc project work on an as-needed basis.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Finance or Accounting) with a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience (preferably in Financial Services industry); or high school/GED with a minimum of twelve (12) years of related experience
  • Prior Technical Controllership and Insurance Industry (preferably with Life and Health insurance products) experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in FASB/GAAP/IFRS, statutory accounting proficiency
  • Ability to analyze relevant facts and formulate technical accounting positions, considering GAAP/IFRS SEC and statutory/regulatory guidance, insurance industry practices, etc.
  • Proficient use of financial systems and Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work at the GE office 2 days a week.
Desired Characteristics
  • Public Accounting experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification
  • Leadership experience with senior management interaction
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple/competing priorities.
  • Ability to implement procedures to minimize/eliminate re-occurrences; proficiency in identifying and leading efforts to capitalize upon opportunities for process improvements and simplification.
