Role purpose

My client is responsible for nearly £40 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds. Your role will be to ensure the delivery of high-quality ALM analytics and modelling services to support client investment strategy design, while maintaining a central infrastructure vital to ongoing client portfolio management of the open DB and closed DB pension schemes we manage. You will drive a strong ALM research culture within the business and look to constantly innovate the fund's approach.

Accountabilities

ALM System Maintenance: Maintain the in-house ALM models and data, which provide crucial information for investment strategy design, investment planning and asset-liability tracking. Maintain high standards of data quality and reliability across the systems.

Enhancing ALM Features: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including IT team, to identify opportunities for improvement in the ALM system. Responsible for prototyping, designing and implementing new features to enhance the ALM capabilities.

Manage Business Risk: Work with Senior Manager, ALM to map out and mitigate key enterprise risks to ALM function and demonstrate robustness and performance to wider business and stakeholders e.g. regulator.

Integrate ALM Into Business: Collaborate with client, funding & covenant, investment management, risk management and IT teams, as well as scheme actuary, to ensure ALM capabilities are fully integrated into the investment process and the advice the Trustee receives.

Documentation and Research: Document all research, model and data processes and keep them up-to-date. Conduct in-depth analysis on ALM-related topics, including hedge design, dynamic investment strategy and capital market assumptions. Drive a strong ALM research culture through active participation in the fund's ALM Forum.

Bespoke Asset-Liability Modelling: Conduct bespoke asset-liability modelling and research to support more significant investment strategy reviews by client team.

What we are looking for

Solid knowledge of statistics and experience applying statistical techniques to complex data.

Experience doing mathematical modelling in relevant areas e.g. stochastic simulation, actuarial projections and asset model parameterisation.

Skilled in one or more of Matlab, Python, VBA, Git / version control and experience building investment models for use in strategic investment decision making.

Previous exposure to asset liability modelling and/or portfolio construction research, ideally in a multi-asset environment.

Around 5-8 years of relevant experience. Open-minded on type of organisation.

Ability to empathise with different perspectives and form close working relationships with various stakeholders

The person

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of applying statistical techniques to complex data and applying mathematical modelling in relevant areas, such as stochastic simulation, actuarial projections and asset model parameterisation. To be successful in the role you will be proficient in one or more of Matlab, Python, VBA, Git / version control and have proven track record in building investment models for use in strategic investment decision making. Previous exposure to asset liability modelling and/or portfolio construction research, ideally in a multi-asset environment would be highly advantageous, but is not essential.

We are looking for an articulate communicator, someone who is adaptable and has ability to see things from multiple perspectives. You will be collaborative in your approach and able to build credible relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently with a focus on delivering best practice is essential.
