Research Analyst for Small Cap Hedge Fund
A $300 million long / short equity fund is seeking a Research Analyst to join our firm working closely with our research team in a collaborative environment, with the opportunity to have immediate impact on the investment process. Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter capable of taking direction and completing a variety of ad hoc research requests on a wide range of topics and synthesizing data quickly and accurately. We are looking for a highly quantitative analyst with a strong background of academic achievement and experience with financial modeling and accounting. Additionally, we are seeking someone with strong interpersonal skills capable of working with senior analysts to make calls to industry sources, business experts, and company executives across industries.
Above all, we are looking for someone who:
1) Wants to be here more than anywhere else - both at a hedge fund, and our fund specifically with an opportunity to grow into a more senior role
2) Has relevant financial industry experience; 2-5 years of professional experience minimum. High quality internship experience will be considered
3) Demonstrated ability as a motivated self-starter capable of taking a basic set of directions and running with it
4) Strong attention to detail and ability to synthesis data to reach nuanced conclusions when evaluating a wide variety of businesses and industries
The Research Analyst tasks include:
*Work with senior analysts to conduct industry research, competitive analysis, and due diligence on a wide variety of topics. Summarize data clearly in written and quantitative form. We’re looking for someone who can grasp a basic thesis and thoroughly research a topic and take direction to assist in either proving or disproving our initial view of the topic. You are the type of person who loves an intellectual challenge and thinking for yourself based on data and facts.
*Strong business sense and quantitative skills, including the ability to build detailed financial models and a strong understanding of how the three financial statements tie together. The ability to handle a high velocity of ideas is a must.
*Assist in composing in-depth written investigative reports for potential investments and be able to discuss your findings with colleagues. Excellent written communication skills a must.
*Ability to find answers to complex questions that require extensive internet searches, on the ground research, and phone work with minimal supervision.
Please submit a research report on a company of your choice with your application. We are a small cap fund so you would be best served submitting a report on a small cap company. Applications without a research report will not be considered.
Position is full time and based in Miami, FL or Seattle, WA. No remote option will be considered or available. Employer will assist with relocation costs.
