About this role

The UK Institutional Market is the largest, most mature market in EMEA with total UK Pensions Assets totalling over $5.2 Trillion. BlackRock has a large established presence in the UK and today, manages c. $400BN on behalf of UK Institutional Clients. Our global platform, the breadth of our investment expertise and risk management capabilities enable us to provide truly differentiated solutions to our clients including Liability Driven Investing and whole-portfolio solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for deepening and expanding existing client relationships
  • Understanding where the client is on their investment journey and providing insights and expertise on our existing relationship
  • Working with the key people at the client to bring them additional value added services that strengthen their connection with BlackRock
  • Demonstrating a deep knowledge of BlackRock firm and strategies and bringing the appropriate resources to the client
  • Responsible for attending client meetings, overseeing materials and, subsequent follow-up and client communication. These may include:
    • Client follow up
    • Q&A
    • Trustee meetings
    • Investment performance reviews and updates
    • Due diligence meetings (so far as it pertains to investment)


  • Leads on client communication for existing mandate and/or changes at BlackRock and aware of relevant thought pieces and initiatives
  • Responsible for external/internal stakeholder engagement on investments, coordination with CEM on operation servicing needs and investment teams, assessing regulatory investment suitability
  • Overseeing and coordinating the onboarding of new clients with CEM and client change activities from and investment perspective, ensuring the delivery of investment or change as agreed with the client; and updating TeamWorld to reflect accurate tracking
  • Leading with investment related queries and discussions with client, delegating as appropriate to internal teams, monitoring progress to resolution and ensuring that responses are timely and of a high quality
  • Collaborating with RMs on client account plans and briefing documents- collectively identifying opportunities for growth of the relationship
  • Review of legal documents for commercials and investment intent
  • Completion of regulatory requirements e.g. MiFID II, EMIR
  • Provides connectivity between client and product specialists and other partners (e.g. BlackRock Client Academy) to bring whole firm to client
  • Represents BlackRock at industry events as required
  • Supports alignment across the sales organisation and with CEM
  • Escalation contact for Operating Events for all clients resulting in reputational/financial impact
  • Works with Sales and CEM in any projects/initiatives (regulatory, platform and/or client) impacting the ICB business/clients
  • Through day to day relationship management, directs operational service activities to CEM but works in partnership to ensure alignment.


Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong relationship builder. Ability to engage and influence key internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to identify and work with sales teams on cross-selling opportunities
  • Understanding of the UK pension fund market, investment industry and competitive landscape
  • Ability to independently cover complex client requirements and look for bespoke solutions or a change in process where appropriate for clients
  • Proficient with use of Aladdin and TeamWorld, including owning and updating TeamWorld with relevant notes
  • Can reflect market dynamics to the firm to effect change
  • Experience in a process driven, risk-controlled environment
  • BA/BS degree in related field (Economics, Finance or Accounting)

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock's hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 3 days in the office each week, with the flexibility to work from home up to 2 days a week; some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
