Team Description; Role function on team:

This is a unique opportunity to get a founding member status in a newly formed Financial Crimes Risk -oriented Data Science and Decision Support Group. This is a multi-disciplinary team that will transform the way information flows to decision-makers at BNY Mellon. The Data Scientist will help build an Augmented Intelligence platform for risk probabilities across a series of key indicating metrics. We want to use classification and anomaly detection techniques to perform statistical, econometric, and drill-down analysis underpinned by machine-learning models. This role will require a strong background in high-level computing languages, unstructured data sets, and statistics.

Responsibilities - External
  • Designs and creates highly complex logical/physical data models, and data dictionaries that cater to the specific business and functional requirements.
  • Consults with businesses to identify needs and translates those needs into solutions through machine learning . Develops comprehensive data/technical specifications that bridge business/product needs with system design/deliverables.
  • Performs drift analysis and hyperparameter tunings.
  • Consults with client areas and provides solutions in resolving issues during the translation to a data model design. Provides knowledge and expertise of enterprise data to assist the business in the creation and definition of internal and external message flows.
  • Provides knowledge and expertise in existing machine learning environments and makes recommendations for opportunities to share data and/or reduce data redundancy. Analyzes market trends for data modeling tools and metadata management software.


Qualifications:
  • Degree in computer science, statistics or similar - PhD and graduate degrees are highly preferred
  • Minimum of 4 + years' experience in research and data science roles
  • We would like a well-rounded knowledge base (having many, but not all) of the following technological skills:
    • Coding skills in Python, R, C++ or Java
    • Understanding of REST, gRPC and other API-related frameworks, concepts and tools
    • Data science workbenches such as Dataiku, Cloudera, H2Oai, Datadog
    • PostgreSQL, Redis and other DB solutions
  • Exposure to and comfort with high performance, low latency computing systems
  • Handling real-time transactional data feeds across asset classes and regions
  • Deep knowledge of time series database technologies
  • Expertise in ML and optimization technologies
  • Deep understanding of financial engineering and mathematical finance concepts
  • Great presentation skills - be able to present research findings to a wide range of audiences
