Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group's reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel.

Principal Responsibilities

• The candidate will be part of the Hong Kong insurance legal team and work as part of the team in meeting the insurance business's legal requirements, focused on the manufacturing and distribution of life and health insurance, distribution of general insurance products by the Bank, as well as health and wellness propositions and solutions
• The candidate will advise and support the insurance business, including creating, reviewing and revising insurance-related and wellness-related documents (such as product brochures, fact statements, policy terms and conditions, application and other documents, customer correspondence, assignment forms, reinsurance treaties, investment agreements and marketing materials)
• The candidate will advise and support on legal aspects of the distribution of insurance, including the sales process, cross border and other restrictions, agency and broker documents, and distribution agreements
• The role will advise and support the business on legal aspects of insurance claims and complaints
• The role will provide, by partnering with the business, legal advice, guidance and support to Hong Kong and Macau insurance businesses to ensure the Group's exposure to legal risks is appropriately managed
• The ability to handle multiple work streams and be innovative and practical are key to the role

Requirements

• Qualified Lawyer with experience preferably gained in insurance or other related financial institutions
• Insurance knowledge and experience required
• InsurTech, insurance related data privacy, investment and ESG knowledge preferred
• An understanding of HSBC group policies and procedures is a plus
• High level of English and excellent drafting skills
• Proficiency in Chinese language is preferred but not essential
• Innovative and practical with lateral thinking/problem solving skills
• Ability to work directly with the business and to manage external counsel
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize
• Strong communication and inter-personal skills
