Our New and Strategic Channels team forms an important part of the SVB UK strategy to open up the innovation ecosystem to underserved markets and overlooked founders and investors and increase their opportunity for success. In prioritising ESG and diversity we play a key role in building an equitable and inclusive innovation ecosystem for the benefit of all.

We are looking for a senior professional to head our New and Strategic Channels team. This is a business development role that engages new channel partners and founder communities within the innovation economy across all stages of our business, to bring companies and funds into the bank. The role also include building and leveraging value-added solutions to support founder and investor success.

As well as being a leadership role within the Investor Coverage & Business Development (IC&BD) team, success in role will also require strong collaboration across the whole SVB UK platform and the broader Relationship Banking team to support cross-platform origination and market development.

The role will specifically include:
  • Setting the strategy and approach for the New & Strategic Channels activity and defining the organisational outcomes required to meet the needs of this segment
  • Leading a BD team of two direct reports and contributing to the overall objectives of the IC&BD team.
  • Identifying and establishing effective new channels and ecosystem relationships, with a predominant focus on accessing under-represented parts of the ecosystem to originate clients for our various relationship teams. Putting in place systems to measure and track channel performance to ensure ongoing alignment to SVB UK objectives.
  • Generating and winning new business for SVB through fund and portfolio company banking and identifying opportunities to support clients with existing or new lending and credit products.
  • Increase investor and founder advocacy, developing the SVB brand via attendance at market leading industry events & conferences and creating high quality media, speaking and thought leadership opportunities. 
  • Building effective internal networks with senior leaders from across the Relationship Banking and Global Funds Banking team to support engagement across the whole platform.
  • Partnering with our Early-Stage Practice and IC&BD on founder and investor success initiative and ensure these are aligned to the needs of all parts of the innovation economy.
  • Providing insight into the SVB platform on key industry and company trends to ensure SVB is developing its business to meet the needs of the innovative ecosystem. 
  • Identifying opportunities and supporting DE&I and ESG initiatives within SVB UK. 

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS 

This individual will likely have the following background/attributes: 
  • Prior experience in a business development role within a professional services firm or commercial / investment bank 
  • Demonstrable experience of forming strategy and leading execution of a team
  • Proven negotiation, sales, and marketing skills
  • Passionate about technology and the innovation ecosystem 
  • Keen understanding of the needs of underrepresented groups within the innovation economy
  • Authentic relationship building skills and extremely self-motivated and success driven 
  • Able to build strong internal networks across the SVB platform 
  • Able to quickly gain a thorough knowledge of SVB's products, services and systems
  • Experience of working internationally across a range of teams and markets 
  • Desire to be part of a market leading franchise in the technology and venture capital industries and be aligned to SVB UK Values

LOCATION 

Based in London and covering firms across the UK and Europe. The role will involve some US travel for conferences and events and to meet with international investors.
