Role Summary:

The transactional FX team sits within the Global Foreign Exchange team of the Corporate & Institutional Services business which aims to provide best in class front-to-back services to Global Asset Managers and Asset Owners. The team is responsible for defining and executing the strategy globally for a range of transactional FX capabilities and services to support the growing sophistication in the Northern Trust client base. This is a role responsible for helping to execute the transactional FX product strategy of the Foreign Exchange business unit.

The transactional FX Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the full life cycle and development of various global Foreign Exchange products in the Capital Markets business. This suite of products includes traditional custody FX solutions, our security related FX outsource solution (Complete FX), and all restricted market FX products. The specialist must have a deep operational understanding of these products in order to continuously drive improvements and serve as a subject matter expert for clients who utilize them.

To be effective, the role requires analytical and problem-solving skills and credibility amongst a large and diverse set of constituents including both senior management and numerous partners across Capital Markets, Operations & IT. A strong business sense and the ability to proactively seek commercialization opportunities as well as very strong client facing abilities are also required.

The role will engage across the organization to ensure timely, relevant and robust deployment of services to meet client needs. This role will also be responsible for and/or contribute to broader capital markets related activities as required. This role is critical in building for the future of Northern Trust and its clients.

The key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Responsible for oversight of day-to-day operations across suite of transactional FX products
  • Manage the onboarding process for new clients, beginning with legal documentation and continuing throughout the entire implementation process
  • As a primary or secondary point of client contact, provide high touch service as part of daily correspondence and when responding to client questions and requests
  • Act as a subject matter expert across all restricted markets from an operational, regulatory, and trading perspective
  • Lead in introducing new product enhancements by coordinating across multiple internal teams
  • Manage marketing materials across the suite of products, including maintaining detailed restricted market guides
  • Providing sales support including presenting at client and prospect meetings
The ideal candidate will have a fair amount of the following experience and skill:
  • A background in Foreign Exchange industry, including but not limited to: Custody FX, security related FX outsource solutions, Restricted Markets, Currency Management and E-Commerce
  • An understanding of custody processes related to international security trades, corporate actions, SWIFT messages, payments, and client reporting
  • Experience with FX in restricted markets from a regulatory, operational, and trading perspective
  • Knowledge of all components of third-party FX in both developed and restricted markets
  • Strong business foundations, including an understanding of what it takes to commercialize a product or service
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a global team environment
  • An analytical background with the ability to understand and navigate complex client FX data solutions. Strong Excel/macro capabilities.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to liaise effectively with members of the organization at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues
  • Demonstrated skills in listening to and influencing stakeholders at all levels, conveying complex topics
  • Good communication skills; verbal, non-verbal and written
