We seek a Vice President, Performance Oversight Manger, to join our Data Operations team to impact the development of the Performance Operations function focused on two major objectives: drive and facilitate front office performance inquiries and support the Benchmark component of the performance calculation. You will add business value in this very front office visible role by evolving and growing our performance oversight capabilities. The essential functions of this role involve the following:
  • Investigate and research all Portfolio Manager and Desk Risk Inquiries regarding Performance.
  • Research and resolve both the account and index component of the performance inquiry.
  • Identify root cause and lead cross functional teams to long term remediation.
  • Data Analysis of inquiries, identification of trends, and project lead for impactful remediation's across teams.
  • Partner with technology to increase operational efficiencies through automation and improved workflow.
  • Understand key market drivers that impact performance calculations including: index pricing, risks measures, and security level compositions.
  • Coordinate with cross-functionally with teams that have an contribute or consume the performance numbers(e.g., Portfolio Management, Client Management, Risk, Operations, Technology, and external service providers)
  • Acting as a point of escalation for our outsourced managed service provider for performance support
  • Maintaining and updating the firm's performance policies
  • Building out processes and improvements, tracking issues, identifying themes, and reporting to Operations leadership with data and recommendations
In addition, you will bring strong understanding of performance calculation and various components, focused project management, strong attention to detail, and a dedication to front office support. Leading through cross functional teams, you will gather vital information, identify the root cause, determine and mobilize the appropriate colleagues to involve, define and develop the project scope, ensure the project team is aligned on the accountabilities, sequencing, and timelines, move the project forward, monitor completion of deliverables, proactively manage stakeholder expectations, and report on plan/issue resolution.

This role may be based in Austin, TX or Newport Beach, CA.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and project manager for all performance-related issues, orchestrating all the work involved to come to a satisfactory and timely solution to sophisticated performance issues
  • Synthesize complex information into streamlined executive summaries for a broad range of audiences
  • Ensure high-quality customer service with an emphasis on timely resolution and thorough problem definition and identification
  • Lead post-issue root cause analysis (RCA) discussions to minimize and/or eliminate future occurrences
  • Proactively identify the possibility of potential problems and take action to make corrections or adjustments when unexpected situations arise
  • Serve as an escalation point for performance vendor and provide oversight of outsourced performance function, including reviewing SLAs and holding vendor accountable
  • Liaise with pricing, security reference, reconciliation, account management, and Portfolio Management teams to facilitate the accuracy of performance returns
  • Document Wiki guide on performance calculations and calculation methodology for internal education/training
  • Establish a diagnostic reference tool for troubleshooting common performance-related issues, identify recurring themes, and proactively communicate and address any structural issues
  • Recommend and implement ways to streamline and automate reporting processes to save time and resources
  • Collaborate on any system enhancements involving performance calculations


Position Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Finance, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering or another quantitative background. A Master's Degree and/or CFA preferred
  • 5-10 years of performance measurement experience (e.g., familiar with performance calculation methodologies, understanding of portfolio accounting concepts, reviewing outliers or custodian/bank reconciliations, validating reporting deliverables, etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Fixed Income and Alternative investment strategies
  • Strong quantitative skills, comfortable with formulas, performance measurement methodology, and risk measures
  • Knowledge of quantitative fixed income mathematics and a good understanding of the fundamentals of portfolio/risk management
  • Experience with calculating, validating, and interpreting portfolio investment results, attribution analysis, benchmark analysis, and transaction/holdings-based analysis
  • Experience providing exceptional front office engagements for demanding end users
  • Comfortable leading cross functional teams through root cause analysis and remediation resolutions
  • Well organized, high energy level/self-starter; must work well in a team environment
  • Extremely effective interpersonal skills
  • CIPM/CFA or progress toward designation preferred
PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus is used to award performance and therefore is determined by company, business, team, and individual performance.

Salary Range: $ 150,000.00 - $ 185,000.00
