A unique opportunity has arisen with this extremely well capitalised private investment firm. Whilst they have a number of different investment areas, mining is their main focus. This role will work with the small corporate finance team, providing mining subject matter expertise to help with the restructuring and strategic management of the global portfolio.

As the business is growing and changing, there will be extensive opportunities within the firm. Once the existing portfolio is streamlined and optimised, the plan is to become aggressively acquisitive, growing the portfolio significantly.

This is a crucial hire and will work closely with the Partners during a very exciting time for the. The London office is new and is the centre piece of the firm moving forward, with all previously segregated business lines brough under one umbrella.

Main duties:
  • Provide industry expertise to the corporate finance team to aid in decision making
  • Work with operational teams around the World to optimise and streamline the current assets
  • Identify opportunities for growth within the existing portfolio
  • Stay abreast of industry changes and World events which may impact on the company
  • Producing a comprehensive written and financial overview of all group mining operations
  • Helping develop and define proposed strategies for various aspects of the mining and trading businesses
  • Setting measurable targets for management and assessing execution risk of each strategy
  • Identifying general risks and opportunities, taking into account relevant industry, economic and financial considerations
  • Assessing resource requirements relevant to the proposed strategies, and relevant management and dependency considerations associated with each strategy
  • Evaluating and critiquing financial targets for revenue, direct cost, overhead costs and capital expenditures both on an annual budgetary basis as well as on a 5 year financial plan level
  • Evaluating transaction opportunities
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with industry peers


Profile:
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the metal mining industry
  • Time spent in a client facing role with a bank or consulting firm or within the M&A / corporate finance team of a mining company
  • Detail oriented and passionate about process and performance improvement at a strategic level
