General Accountabilities:
The Valuation Analyst - Investments analyzes various private investments across the investment portfolio using capital market information, asset modeling and technical skills to arrive at a fair value for such investment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with analysts and portfolio managers to develop, maintain, and enhance proprietary valuation models used to price private investments across the investment portfolio of Security Benefit, including but not limited to corporate loans, commercial real estate loans, and securitized products
- Independently gather publicly available data pertinent to valuing private investments
- Assist in preparing and presenting the results of the valuation analysis and outcome in a clear and concise manner
- Perform in-depth industry, market and competitor analysis to arrive at a fair value for individual investments
- Develop and adhere to a consistent and objective process based on verifiable inputs across a wide range of private investments
- Work directly with the Investment Technology Group to implement models in scalable and highly efficient utilization
- Provide support to Financial Planning and Analysis group related to financial forecasts
- Partner with external valuation firms, as applicable, to value certain private investments
- Author high quality memos and model writeups and present them to the Model Review Working Group for approval
- Stay abreast of modeling best practices and strive to consistently improve valuation models
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-year related experience is required
- Bachelor's degree with major in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related fields
- MBA/MS in Finance/Financial Mathematics and CFA candidates preferred
- Working knowledge across wide range of fixed income asset classes
- Familiarity with the markets and an understanding of finance, economics, accounting, investment, and insurance principles and practices is preferred
- Strong problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills
- The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, well-organized, independent, entrepreneurial, assertive, self-motivated, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to prioritize in a fast paced environment
- Strong quantitative, analytical, modeling, and written and oral communication skills
- Proficient knowledge of software used for investment analysis, portfolio management, and reporting such as Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel), Bloomberg as well as other financial and statistical software packages
- Experience with BondEdge , Intex or similar software is a plus
- Ability to maintain composure while working under pressure
Security Benefit offers a competitive salary and as a full-time employee you are eligible for our robust benefits package including:
- Employees are eligible for an annual incentive bonus designed to reward for performance.
- The salary range for New York City Metro Area is $74,000 to $94,000. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and will be reflected in the candidate's offer letter.
