How will I help?

The Strategic Risk Data Environment (SRDE) aims to bolster the Group's growing analytics capability by revolutionising the way in which we do analytics and use data to drive decisions and insights. The SRDE Program's Calculation Engine Project for Basel III is in need of a Technical Business Analysts to work in an Agile team to assist with data gathering, analysis and technical documentation tasks. The Senior Technical Business Analyst role is an integral part of the Project team.

They are responsible for:
  • Leading the achievement of Westpac's strategy by working with stakeholders to elicit, analyse, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies, information, and systems
  • Defining and managing the requirements through the delivery lifecycle to meet business needs, including writing functional requirements, user stories and test cases
  • Providing and directing recommendations for process re-design and improvements and business solutions, enabling changes to processes, policy and/or information that supports Westpac to achieve targeted business outcomes and deliver business value
  • Documenting the developer's logic in business terminology in the required template to build up a knowledge repository (wiki) for the business to use
  • Leading the definition, elicitation, prioritisation and validation of requirements and design of business processes to meet the needs of the organisation
  • Defining and driving 'As Is' and 'To Be' processes
  • Managing the development of detailed Business Requirements, Business Process Specifications and/or System Functional / Non-Functional Specifications that will drive the desired change to business process, system enhancement / development activities
  • Reviewing and revising documentation in light of any new information and/or changes to initial assumptions, including implications for project time, cost, quality and risk
  • Creating supporting documentation (wiki) for each data item and table, to ensure the business have a thorough understanding of what has been delivered
  • Supporting testing, training, and implementation activities, to ensure the successful delivery of the overall business and technology solutions
  • Constructing the business case and benefits realisation plan, specifically analysing the proposed solution to deliver the desired business outcome and associated project costs

What do I need?

Knowledge
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience desirable
  • Desired business and/or technology tertiary qualifications
  • A strong understanding of technology and business systems strategically and operationally
  • Knowledge of SAS or equivalent - the ability to read and understand SAS code or similar ETL logic such as SQL
  • Knowledge of project disciplines and financial services
  • Knowledge of Agile Project delivery methodologies
  • Coaching and mentoring skills.
Experience

Essential

3-7 years of business process improvement/re-engineering, data analysis, system functional / non-functional analysis experience and business requirements preparation experience. For example:
  • Senior Business Analyst in major end-to-end business process re-engineering or business transformation initiatives
  • Technical Business Analyst in major information technology delivery projects ensuring solution delivers the desired business outcomes and value
  • Facilitation of business solution workshops involving participants from senior management to business users
Preferred
  • Recent Financial industry experience
  • Credit Risk, Basel II, Basel III, IFRS9/expected credit loss, IRB modelling
  • Compliance or regulatory project experience
  • Product experience - Product feature design, backlog refinement/prioritisation - in a banking / credit risk environment
  • SAS/SQL knowledge
  • Intermediate/advanced excel skills - Ability to write excel formulas and work on large datasets in excel.
