The EMEA Accounting Policy Group is focused on researching technical accounting matters for both internal and external clients under US GAAP and IFRS. Internal clients include the CFO and controllers' group, financial reporting, various derivatives businesses (equity, fixed income and credit), global securitized markets, asset finance group, commodities, Treasury Trade Solutions (TTS), corporate lending, investment banking, among others. External clients include treasury, finance and accounting executives at our corporate and financial institutions clients.

The position is also responsible for:
  • Leading EMEA-specific implementation efforts for new accounting standards for both US GAAP and IFRS
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to facilitate firm-wide education of new or changing accounting requirements to ensure that management understands the impact of new standards and regulations.
  • Reviewing and approving new products and structured transactions and participating in the New Activity Approval Process, thereby monitoring franchise risk for the firm
  • -Managing a team of accounting experts that review and approve the accounting treatment for complex transactions, establish accounting policies in conjunction with peer policy staff, and are integral to preparing and assisting Controllers in connection with Citi's financial statements.
  • -Interacting with accounting standard setters (for example, the Financial Accounting Standards Board and International Accounting Standards Board), banking regulators and participating on industry committees.
  • -Maintaining strong relationships with auditors and other external advisors.
  • -Recruiting, developing and retaining high caliber and diverse talent for Accounting Policy and Finance overall.
  • -Being part of a Global Accounting Policy Team that reviews and approves the firm's most significant accounting issues, and participates in the Constructive Review and Challenge Process as part of firm-wide new accounting standards implementations.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Accounting
  • Big 4 accounting firm financial services and/or national technical office experience or accounting policy or other technical accounting role at a financial institution (over 12 years of experience). Experience working for IASB/FASB and/or U.S. banking regulator is highly desirable
  • CA required
  • -A demonstrated track record of leadership and working closely with accounting standard setters, regulators and peer banks, with an outstanding reputation in the banking industry as a trusted subject matter expert
  • -A demonstrated track record as a financial instrument subject matter expert in regards to both complex deal characteristics and structures, and the application of accounting guidelines to effectively provide the appropriate accounting guidance in our fast-paced environment.
  • The individual must possess excellent interpersonal and client service skills to partner with businesses and peers, as well as have the ability to work very closely and confidently with many different levels of senior management throughout Citi
  • Strong negotiation, research, analytical, organization and drafting skills
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task while working on long-term projects
  • The candidate should be a fast thinker/quick learner and possess the ability to work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously as an effective member of a dynamic team, and mentor/lead staff
  • -Drive, executive presence and ability to grow into expanded role at Citi
  • Excellent organisation skills to achieve objectives efficiently and
  • -Strong coaching and mentoring skills to help train, motivate and retain accounting policy staff at Citi.
