Role overview

BlackRock is the world - s largest asset manager with the industry - s leading Separately Managed Account (SMA) franchise. The Head of SMA and Models Marketing will lead our effort to transform distribution and the asset management industry by delivering a personalized, solutions-based whole portfolio experience to meet the complex needs of advisors and their clients.

We are hiring a Director to manage an 8-person team that oversees marketing strategy and execution to support and grow the franchise. What sets BlackRock apart in the SMA space, and what makes this role so unique, is the firm - s breadth of managed account offerings - from traditional stock and bond SMAs to Aperio tax-managed SMAs (i.e., direct indexing) to SpiderRock option strategies and finally to our fast-growing and market leading ETF Model Portfolio/Custom Model Solutions franchise. The key to success in the role is supporting the franchise both vertically and horizontally - that is, the successful candidate must demonstrate the capability to not only market each of the SMA siloes, but also to unify and harmonize across the offerings.

Beyond the product breadth outlined above is the range of channels to support - the successful candidate must display a capability to support both core retail channels (e.g., wirehouses and RIAs) and institutional channels (e.g., family offices, foundations and endowments). Driving this need is BlackRock - s 2021 acquisition of Aperio, an industry leading direct indexing provider - the candidate for this role must support Aperio - s institutional channel (and cross sell other BlackRock SMAs to this channel) while also driving SMA growth in core retail through BlackRock - s US Wealth Advisory sales force.

This position can be based out of NY, SF or Princeton.

Responsibilities:

Strategy, content & messaging
  • Build, oversee and maintain product marketing strategies for each SMA business line (Aperio tax-managed SMAs, BlackRock bond SMAs, SpiderRock option strategies and BlackRock Model Portfolios) to support our core retail efforts, including messaging, campaigns, website, events, thought leadership and education.
  • For institutional, partner with institutional partners, thought leaders in research and product to develop rich content on taxes, values-alignment and portfolio construction and support the development bespoke sales collateral.
  • Establish BlackRock as the industry leader in managed accounts by building a narrative that unites our SMA businesses as a single solution set to solve the complex investing needs of high, ultra-high net worth and institutional clients.
  • Partner closely with Corporate Communications and digital marketing partners to scale this narrative across earned, owned and paid channels while leading content strategy for aperio.com.


Team leadership
  • Lead a team of 6-8 product marketing professionals spread across the U.S. Candidate must lead, inspire and coach the team.
  • Embrace BlackRock - s culture of collaboration and lead - horizontally - across partner teams in Sales, Product, Digital, Legal & Compliance and more.


Skills/Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in various marketing functions, especially content marketing.
  • Strong writing and visualization skills - one who can make the complex simple, who can succinctly articulate a benefits-oriented value proposition.
  • Deep understanding of the asset management and wealth advisory markets. Strong command of portfolio construction principles is a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of team leadership - one who can attract, develop, and motivate talented people.
  • Out-of-the-box thinker and efficient doer, able to devise creative, differentiated strategies while closely supporting execution.
  • Team player with demonstrated capacity to work seamlessly with a wide variety of personalities across the organization.
  • Intellectual agility and pragmatic personality, with the talent to adapt in an evolving environment.


For New York City and California only the salary range for this position is $180,500 - $230,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock - s current hybrid work model is designed to enable in-person connections and collaboration that is core to our culture, while supporting increased flexibility for all employees. In line with local health guidance and regulations, employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office each week, with the flexibility to work from home up to 2 days a week. Some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
