As a Principal Stakeholder Engagement and Strategic Investments, you will be responsible for developing and executing stakeholder engagement strategies tailored to the Investment Subcommittee, Finance Committee, Executive Leadership, donors and various other internal and external stakeholders. This role requires someone who has a passion for investments, the securities markets and macroeconomic information. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to synthesize substantial amounts of information for a diverse set of stakeholders, assembling reports and presentations that represent the Investment Office.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies best practices, communication tools and strategies, and emerging trends that will improve stakeholder relationships and drive higher engagement with the Investment Office and ultimately, the Cleveland Clinic’s mission.
  • Manages the strategic engagement of the Investment Committee, Finance Committee and other internal and external CCF stakeholders through deep understanding of CCF’s various investment portfolios and investment managers, relevant capital markets, investment trends and governance priorities.
    • Develops thoughtful, high-quality, stakeholder-centric presentation materials with engaging narratives that maximize stakeholder understanding, appreciation and ownership of the investment management, risk framework and oversight practices utilized to oversee the investment portfolios managed by CCIO.
    • Prepares an annual report to stakeholders on CCIO’s cost and the fees paid to investment managers. 
    • Prepares minutes for key stakeholder meetings and provides an annual summary on Investment Committee self-evaluations.  
    • Orchestrates Investment Committee onboarding, educational opportunities and regular strategic offsite meetings.
    • As needed, works with other CCF departments to identify future Investment Committee members and assists the CIO in the development and maintenance a pipeline of potential candidates.
  • Creates and orchestrates CCIO’s semiannual and annual internal staff offsite, working collaboratively across CCIO to conduct a holistic investment portfolio review and identify primary goals and objectives for future evolution of the investment portfolios and CCIO.
  • Assists the CIO and CCIO team with preparation of agendas and related materials for key meetings with the CFO, CEO, Directors and Trustees.
  • Monitors and evolves CCIO’s approach to ESG investing by identifying trends, standards, relationships, and expectations applicable to CCF’s various portfolios and investment managers. 
    • As needed, works with peers across Cleveland Clinic to investigate the implementation of ESG initiatives and ensure that the ESG policies utilized for the investment portfolios are aligned with Cleveland Clinic business practices and goals.
    • Takes a leadership role in measuring statistics on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion factors for CCIO’s investment partners and its own staff.  Assists the CIO and CCIO team members with dissemination of DEI statistics to key stakeholders and monitors the trends/results of key initiatives designed to improve DEI scores.    
  • Supports the CIO as the Co-Chair of CCF’s Retirement Committee and functions as the assistant Portfolio Advisor on CCF’s defined contribution pension plans.
    • Research emerging trends and implements best practices in retirement plan structure and governance.
    • Represents the CIO in the Investment Working Group of the Retirement Committee and other internal working groups as needed.  Prepares meeting agendas, assembles materials; assists with manager research and fee analysis.
    • Works with Investment Consultant to provide timely reporting and dissemination of key data and metrics to internal stakeholders.
    • Negotiates third party contracts to achieve the highest benefit to participants, consistent with risk, and to provide full transparency of fees.
  • Monitors the investment options available in the defined contribution plans in collaboration with the investment consultant. Researches and proposes new investment options.
  • Supports CCIO’s generalist model.
    • Participates in the due diligence process on investments in multiple asset classes.
  • Serves as a respected ambassador for CCF and CCIO at investment manager meetings, and industry conferences and events.
  • Provides direct support to the CIO, and the CFO when appropriate, for investment decisions, strategic initiatives and special projects.
    • Defines and executes long-term goals for strategic investment efforts and manages potential additional personnel related to its execution.
    • Evaluates and executes strategic investment opportunities championed by CCF stakeholders. Collaborates with all relevant parties to ensure alignment and cooperation.
    • Evaluates and executes potential anchor institution investment opportunities in collaboration with CCF Community Development, Community Care and other internal departments or CCF Institutes.
  • Supports the CIO and CCIO in the annual budget process.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Economics, Social Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, Business or another related field required.
  • Master of Business Administration or Master's of Science in Business is required.  Majors in Finance, Economics, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science or Data Analytics are preferred.
  • Strong record of academic achievement preferred.

 

Certifications:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) preferred.

 

Complexity of Work:

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Adobe Acrobat, Factset, Bloomberg, Tableau or other data visualization and publishing products.

 

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 9 years of relevant professional experience in Investment Banking, Management Consulting, or Asset Management.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information. 
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.  
  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.  
  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.  
  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
