Job Description

The Associate General Counsel, TTS role is responsible for advising the TTS (Treasury and Trade Solutions) Business at a global as well as local level on all aspects including product development, deal support, technology service providers, and data privacy. The suite of TTS Cash Management offerings includes Commercial Cards, Accounts, Deposit Services, Payments, Receivables, Liquidity Management, and Platform and Data Services. TTS provides critical cash management services and commercial cards for institutional clients including top-tier multi-national corporates, financial institutions, and governments.

Working in partnership with the Business, the successful candidate will exercise sound legal judgment to develop proactive, practical, and artful business-oriented solutions that are safe, sound, risk-managed, and fair. The successful candidate will regularly interface with senior managers.

Responsibilities include reviewing new products or features; evaluating and minimizing risk; following relevant legal and regulatory developments; resolving customer matters; analyzing technology capabilities; negotiating with clients, vendors, and strategic alliance partners; participating in internal projects; and performing other related tasks. Matters are diverse and can be highly complex due to the global nature or the novelty of the product development. Areas of focus include cross border and cross currency transactions, novel payment capabilities, digital wallets, digital assets, value-add services and functionality, and investment activities via electronic banking and other channels. Must be able to work independently, manage multiple assignments simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Must be able to distill complex issues in a manner suitable to the audience, and analyze legal, reputational, and financial considerations. Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory environment is essential, as well as awareness of trends. The role involves extensive interaction with business seniors and other stakeholders including operations, regional or country counsel counterparts, and cross-functional partners such as compliance, risk, and tax. Requires a committed effort to stay abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies, and industry trends that impact the Business.

The position is a member of the TTS Treasury Solutions Legal group supporting products that are global, North America regional, and U.S. domestic in scope. Through this role, the person will interface with the wider Citi organization, including Product, Sales, Technology, Operations, Risk, and Compliance, in the U.S. and cross-regionally.

Seeking 15 years experience, ideally in financial services, markets, and technology, or have a background in an institutional setting or an active corporate transactions practice. Areas of substantive knowledge include banking, cash management, foreign exchange, Visa, MC, and other payment network rules, corporate treasury activity, general contract law, intellectual property, and software licensing. Specific payment network rules, foreign exchange, investments, payments, receivables, liquidity, and electronic banking channels knowledge a plus. Must have experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop recommendations, and effective communication skills.

The successful candidate will perform legal analysis; demonstrate sound judgment and discretion; actively participate in various risk review and control forums; demonstrate keen awareness of issues that could cause financial, reputational, or legal consequences; and an effective communicator. Ability to work independently, be motivated and a self-starter, and think creatively.

The successful candidate is solution oriented and business practical, advising the Business on the risks and mitigants within the legal and regulatory landscape, meeting Citi's core principles including Responsible Finance.
