About this role

Function Overview:

The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team is critical to helping senior managers understand the business of investment management at BlackRock. We advise and produce budgets, short and long range forecasts; create and analyze business metrics and identify cost savings opportunities; deliver economic insight into the relationships between costs and revenues to improve the financial success of the business going forward. We are a valued and critical component of the management function, working at all levels of BlackRock to provide both a broad and deep understanding of the firm - s financial position and opportunities.

This role sits within FP&A and has horizontal partnership across Finance (FP&A, Controllers, Product Tax), Operations and Human Resources, with connectivity both to Operations data flows, to HR compensation information related to carried interest, and to Finance systems including TM1. The purpose of the role is to establish greater connectivity of carried interest data used throughout the organization through the design and maintenance of both short and long-term systems solution for carry related financial processes. The team - s e ngagements are high profile initiatives which may require team members to have senior level exposure and play an active role in shaping the future state operating and reporting models for carried interest within BlackRock.

Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking an Associate to work as part of a global team that will be able to make an immediate contribution to various projects with a specific focus on carried interest forecasting and reporting. This includes effectively understanding the business and specific issues that need to be addressed, developing a strategy, tracking key milestones, leveraging firm resources and skills to execute on plans, and efficiently deploying the solution across BlackRock Alternatives. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design and maintain the methodology for carry forecasting; manage forecast outputs on a quarterly basis; work closely with the FP&A business partners to refresh forecasts with the latest views on forward-looking cash flows and produce a GAAP carry budget
  • Ensure that carry is appropriately recognized as revenue, coordinating and connecting with Operations, Controllers and FP&A to anticipate recognition of carry revenue and to help determine the availability of carry payments out of underlying funds
  • Pro-forma analyses for the business based on various scenarios of realizations within the products.
  • Advising on the carried interest waterfall calculation methodology for new proposed products including partnering with Operations to ensure that calculations for new product launches are sustainable
  • Partner with Human Resources to develop a carried interest compensation forecast and supporting analyses to determine estimated value of carried interest compensation - points. -
  • Process and technology improvement: Partner with Operations teams to compile and eventually automate data feeds into carry forecasting; partner on transitioning the existing Excel-based tool into a secure long-term system.
  • Enhance existing reporting processes with a focus on simplification, automation, visualization and improved communication


Knowledge/Experience / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor - s Degree, preference for numerical discipline
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial markets preferred, with an understanding of carried interest waterfall structures and the ability to develop scenario models
  • Demonstrable problem-solving, quantitative, and analytical skills; strategic and creative thinking
  • Track record of strong performance
  • Experience of data management processes and complex data models a plus
  • Able to analyze and extract valuable insights for management and deliver impactful management reporting
  • Cross-functional experience in finance, accounting, and technology preferred but not essential
  • History of effective multi-tasking, expectation setting, issue management


Competencies:
  • Ability to think quickly whilst maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, multiple demands and prioritise effectively
  • Advanced skills in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP - s, SUMIFs) with experience with VBA a plus
  • Ability to clearly articulate and present ideas both in written presentations and orally
  • Strong organizational, planning, and coordination skills
  • Able to work effectively at all levels of an organization and build strong relationships with team members, managers, and senior executives in multiple locations


For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $104,500 - $120,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
