Associate, U.S. Public Finance - Higher Education and Not-For-Profit Institutions
The Role:
As an Associate, you will analyze a portfolio of assigned entities as well as moderately complex situations, data, and information assesses clients' financial projections, and resolves difficult deal-specific analytical situations. This position is responsible for meeting with issuers and investors on analytical matters, assisting in resolving client needs, contributing to media requirements in conjunction with senior members of the organization, and taking the lead at external meetings related to credits, as assigned by a more senior manager. Specifically, in this role, the analyst will:
• Act as the primary analyst for higher education and non-traditional not-for-profit bond transactions and be an active, vocal voting member of the committee who makes recommendations to the rating committee and prepares material for ratings publication, and
• Write deal summaries and analytical reports, contribute to thought leadership pieces, and synthesize analysis into well-reasoned and well-supported rating recommendations that demonstrate a strong understanding of financial markets and business environment and the relationship to S&P products.

The public finance enterprise team has a strong collegial environment and friendly atmosphere; as a new analyst, you would be regularly assigned to work with senior analysts to improve your knowledge and understanding, and we would expect you to frequently ask questions of senior analysts, who are happy to oblige. A lot of the work is completed independently, but every rating involves a team of analysts, so teamwork is very important. The pace is rapid, so if the thought of working on one report by yourself for months sounds boring to you, you'd like this environment.
Your Skills:
The candidate should possess critical thinking skills, along with proficiency with major off-the-shelf software. The candidate should have the aptitude to be a team player, but also be able to work independently. A bachelor's and advanced degree is required, plus 1-3 years in financial services. In addition, the candidate must have strong verbal communication and writing skills; analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent time management and ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and multitask; the ability to think independently and critically; and the ability to mentor others.
