The Role Responsibilities
The Structured Solutions Development team (SSD) is an Industry-focussed unit within TB Trade and Working Capital. The team is responsible to drive revenue growth and control risks across clients in the specific industry verticals across SCB. While flow transaction will be executed by RM and sales teams, bespoke transactions will be executed by SSD transactors in the relevant jurisdiction.
One of the key initiative within Trade and Working capital is to drive ECA-backed solutions across the industry verticals. These ECA specialists will be accountable for delivery of budget from such solutions. ECA specialists will be known for their expertise in origination, structuring and delivering best-in-class solutions using ECA covers. ECA specialists build industry specific knowledge and solutions which are relevant to the client and replicable, thereby driving revenue velocity. The ECA specialists will support the industry leads in working with the wider CCIB teams.
Strategy
  • Originate trade and working capital solutions with regular engagement with ECAs in the region
  • Be the lead for ECA backed solutions offered to clients in the region which may be identified by sales or RMs
  • Contribute to, and execute on the Bank's ECA-backed Trade and Working Capital Strategy.
  • Develop a plan to originate via continuous dialogue with ECA executives (business development + underwriters) and exporters.
  • Continuous engagement with RMs, TB Sales and SSD transactors (in conjunction with the CSDG team) in the regional market to institutionalize ECA deal origination and execution.
  • Liaise with SSD transactors and sales/RMs in the importer markets to support importers' decision on ECA-backed financing solutions.
  • Be on top of emerging trends in the ECA solution space.
  • Liaise with CSDG to ensure solutions can be documented basis appropriate CRR compliant covers.
Solutions Development & Delivery
  • Based on the broader understanding of ECA space, help the originating teams and client to identify opportunities or situations. Engage consultatively to create optionality and solutions for clients and convert them into successful deals which help solve for client need.
  • Have excellent presentation/communication skills to deliver and grow the opportunity for a client, teams in the bank or Industry discussions.
  • Be able to negotiate, structure and deliver structured or bespoke trade and working capital solutions
  • Be detail oriented and methodical to ensure appropriate identification of risks and articulation of mitigation where present. Ensure records are available of validation/audit at any point in time
Financial Management - Product P/L Management
  • Deliver budget, through active management of:
o Revenue (new revenue streams): FY 2023 USD [ ] m, going up to USD [ ]m by 2025.
o No of deals executed / No of unique clients for which deals executed
o Returns (i.e. product profitability) [ROE / RORWA] at a deal or client level.
Market Management & Commercialization
  • Identify new business opportunities and revenue pools whilst articulating how the product capabilities can solve for client needs and requirements
  • Actively mitigate identified business pain points, by evaluating pragmatic solutions that have wide applicability
  • Lead solution identification and brainstorming sessions with client facing teams (TB Sales, RMs, CF teams) to generate leads
  • Engage in, replication of deals across the client space where relevant, best practice sharing and education of clients on use of sophisticated solutions to meet their needs
  • Leverage experience and ECA sector knowledge to provide business solutions for complex deals or RFPs to drive sales and solutions
  • Meet and engage clients (specifically exporters) to understand their needs or to provide solutions for their explicit or implicit needs using a consultative sales approach.
  • Connect with industry Forums/ regulators/ platform development to help with wider adoption of sustainable financing within trade and working capital finance
Leadership, People and Talent
  • Be a thought leader by building deep and comprehensive knowledge of client industry sectors, their drivers, commercial trade processes, how they compare with their peer group on debt, working capital ratios, best practises in treasury and liquidity management, etc for clients in the region/ or for the identified sector, globally.
  • Provide advisory, constructive challenge and thought leadership perspectives on a range of opportunities and challenges in country and across the markets
Risk Management
  • To be able to articulate to the client, risk and other relevant teams on how a proposed solutions meets client needs, enable it to be more efficient, enable it to grow and scale its business, mitigate its risks and how it helps in a wider investor participation for a financing where required.
  • Has comprehensive or wide knowledge of legal aspects linked to an instrument, debt, security in the relevant jurisdictions; local regulations and initiatives of local industry bodies to stay ahead of the regulatory change agenda and/or how it affects the solutions.
  • Takes the initiative regarding regulatory, reputational and ethical matters by providing proactive advice to clients and sales teams
  • Ensures adherence with the highest standards of ethics, and compliance with relevant policies, processes and regulations
  • Ensure appropriate TB inputs are incorporated in Deal Review / BCA / Term sheet / Pre-Screening review / Credit
  • Actively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk and compliance matters for the region and delivery mechanisms relevant for the industry globally, in a timely manner
Governance
  • Demonstrate accountability for all product related risks for deals and solutions executed for clients in the region by ensuring the right governance standards are applied and provides guidance even when there is ambiguity
  • Identify and mitigate operational, credit, regulatory, legal, fraud and risks in the processes via a business Conduct lens.
  • Ensure the relevant approvals (including compliance with relevant deal review guidelines) for a transaction or client engagement are sought and can be produced for an audit review at any point in time
  • Take the lead to ensure compliance, AML and FCC risk and applies appropriate risk mitigation processes.

Ideal Candidate
  • Will have deep knowledge of the ECA space and have led and delivered bespoke / structured trade finance transactions for atleast 7 years
  • Multi geography experience preferred
  • Strong coverage/relationship management and credit analysis experience
  • Experienced Structured Trade finance professional
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills
  • Solution and detail oriented and ability to mitigate risks.
  • Core Credit and Risk Management Certification completed or to be completed within 12 months of joining.

Expected annual base pay range for the role is $ 117,000 to $ 194,000 . The final offer will be determined on an individualised basis using a number of variables, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and education, internal relativity, and specific work location. At Standard Chartered Bank, Base pay is only part of the total compensation package.
