Overview & Purpose

The External and Regulatory Reporting Group Manager is a subject matter expert who prepares and analyzes the product data required to complete the filings in an accurate and timely manner with a primary focus on quarterly reports that support the U.S. Capital Rules (Basel III). Produces and delivers executive summaries with key variance analysis, targeted detail product and new product analysis to senior leadership and external regulators. Responsible for managing and providing the credit risk weighted assets for the annual Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR).

Responsibilities and Knowledge include (but not limited to)
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of regulatory reporting best practices and a specialized understanding of the corporate standards.
  • Develops data gathering processes and procedures, supporting analytics, and reporting controls.
  • Recognized throughout the organization as the external reporting point of contact for a particular business or business partner area.
  • Gathers and reports accurate and timely financial information for the entire spectrum of the reporting process to external Regulators ensuring accuracy and correctness and transforms data where needed.
  • In partnership with management, establishes the regulatory reporting strategy for the business/business partner area and is accountable for ensuring the implementation of that strategy.
  • Designs, builds, and drives implementation activities to develop a common end-state reporting process in support of their direct manager and the global process owners.
  • Addresses highly complex external reporting matters associated with the process.
  • Uses existing strategic relationships to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Liaises with internal and external regulators to ensure compliance to prescribed standards.
  • Coordinates the delivery of process documentation and advocates for continuous improvement of work processes.
  • Responsibilities are primarily specialized to address the external reporting management needs of a particular business (product). However, tasks often produce cross-regional impacts and are modified based upon local regulations and requirements.
  • No direct reports. Oversees, advises and guides less experienced External Reporting roles and may direct their work. Acts as a coach and mentor to less experienced team members.


Qualifications and Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • B.A./B.S. with Accounting or similar concentration or equivalent experience is preferred
  • 10 to 12 years of experience in external reporting and/or internal audit preferred


Preferred Skills

The preferred candidate should have qualifications described below.
  • Experience in regulatory reporting is also preferred with knowledge of U.S. Capital Rules (Basel III) and bank financial products
  • Knowledge of SQL and/or other languages such as Python would be beneficial
  • C.P.A. and knowledge of GAAP is preferred

BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $96,000 and $165,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
