What We Do

Collateral Operations Group Overview

The Collateral Operations group is a global team within the Global Operations & Technology division of BNY Mellon responsible for supporting our clients' collateral and portfolio reconciliations processes. Our clients include pension funds, endowments, mutual funds, hedge funds and other financial institutions using derivatives to manage their financial risks. We provide processing, inquiry and general support for our clients while working to improve and automate transaction processing systems. We are a center of excellence maximizing specific knowledge around the collateralization of complex derivative products, including swaps, options, forwards, and futures.

Lead Analyst, Collateral Management and Client Service Role Overview

This is a Senior-level Analyst role within our Collateral Administration offering Middle Office Operations service supporting largely buyside clients such as hedge funds, asset managers, insurance companies outsourcing some or all of their back and middle office support functions. The role is equal parts client service, collateral processing, and risk and control with the goal of mastering process and getting on the VP track.

Role-Specific Responsibilities

  • Cross-Product Collateral Management Processing. Margin call issuance and response, inventory management, collateral pledging, and settlement confirmation.
  • Client service. In particular, timely management of client inquiries. This means attention to all communication methods (inbox, group box, Symphony chat etc.) to ensure responsiveness. For this role, it's principally important to understand you don't need to have the answer to give a response.
  • Exception Management. Organized management of all breaks, such as fails and material margin disputes through to resolution.
  • Team Dynamic. A reliance on team members to get through day-to-day is essential. Group chat-style communication is used throughout the day for wire approvals, sign-offs, double-checks, questions, and observations and is a critical element of our team dynamic.
  • Risk and Control. Within Operations, a strong control environment is essential to ensuring process integrity. This means, participating in testing, diagnosing and escalating production issues, adhering to maker/checker and 4-eye principal policies, and evolving internal controls and standards as needed.


Standard Job Responsibilities
  • Works with external clients to resolve complex day-to-day issues and direct them to appropriate resources at BNY Mellon.
  • Supports clients in addressing and resolving complex operational and technical issues and ensuring requests are executed. Applies advanced problem-solving skills, judgement, and experience to analyze information. Uses developed communication skills to deliver high quality service to a specialized client base.
  • Provides individuals at assigned clients information related to BNY Mellon's products and services representing an array of lines of business and geographies; leverages an in-depth understanding of broader BNY Mellon services and offerings. Proactively assists clients in reviewing potential business needs and directs them to appropriate resources at BNY Mellon. May be the central point of contact for business development and assume client onboarding and/or risk management responsibilities
  • Resolves complex or non-routine client issues or inquires, as needed.
  • Uses in-depth knowledge of client issues and needs to contribute to business development efforts. Uses understanding of BNY Mellon products and services to best propose expanded offerings to clients for front office consideration.
  • Leads and participates in internal activities and initiatives designed to improve the client experience. Helps develop process improvements.
  • No direct reports; provides guidance to less experienced team members.
  • Supports multiple, complex client accounts.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Five to seven (5-7) years of total work experience is preferred.
  • Experience in an operational area and/or client services is preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Client service skills including the ability to communicate effectively orally and over email.
  • Microsoft Excel skills including the ability to manage large datasets, perform v-lookups and pivot tables.
  • Desire to help people and solve problems.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in Collateral Management, Portfolio Reconciliation, or Derivatives.
