Job Title: Regulatory Reform Lawyer
Corporate Title: Up to Director & Assistant General Counsel
Location: London

Role Description:

  • Assisting with strategic and technical legal advice on the scope of EU regulations (together with national implementing measures) and interpretation of specific provisions, having regard to the level 1 and level 2 texts and any guidance or FAQs provided by the applicable regulators. The scope of rules and regulations includes: MIFID II, EMIR, Benchmark Regulation, Securities Financing Transaction Regulation, CSDR, SRD II.
  • Assisting with strategic and technical legal advice on the UK regulations that onshored EU regulations as part of the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.
  • Assisting with strategic and technical legal advice on EU and UK ESG and digital finance laws and regulations, and monitoring legislative developments.
  • Assisting line of business legal coverage with current regulatory issues and impending regulatory implementation issues.
  • Attending internal regulatory implementation programme working groups.
  • Presenting at internal meetings on regulatory developments.
  • Preparing updates on regulatory developments for senior legal and business partners.
  • Liaising with internal regulatory workstream leads, project managers and external advisors.
  • Representing BofA at relevant industry working groups (e.g. ISDA, AFME, UK Finance).

The Team:

  • EMEA Equities Legal is a team of lawyers led by Mark Skinner, with 30 FTE located in London and 2 FTE in Paris. The Regulatory coverage is a sub-set of this team.
  • Cumulatively the team has a vast amount of experience and are well placed to provide ongoing support and training, with senior members actively identifying development opportunities for more junior team members.
  • More broadly, the Global Markets Legal team have an internal mentoring program, connecting senior leaders across the legal department with teammates across all regions. In addition, the Global Markets Legal team have an external mentoring program with its key magic circle law firms, helping to develop and support diverse lawyers and in furtherance of a creating a legal profession which represents the diversity of our communities.

Key skills:

  • Qualified lawyer
  • Experience of investment banking either through private practice advisory work/secondment or in-house legal department
  • Experience of legal advisory work with particular attention to regulations applicable to financial markets
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy of work
  • Proactive and able to manage competing priorities/tight deadlines
