Join Macquarie Asset Management's Real Asset platform, a leading global infrastructure asset manager that is part of the Macquarie Group.

You will join the Real Assets team based in London; a large yet further growing team, with a focus on Energy Transition, Utilities, or Transport Services that offer value creation and growth opportunities. The team has significant upcoming dealflow and will be highly active in deploying capital into new as well as managing its existing investments. Macquarie invests with purpose and puts a strong focus on best practices in operational and ESG performance in its investment framework.

You will be an integral member of the European infrastructure team with exposure across the full life-cycle of investments; primarily working on investment opportunities but also supporting the asset management of portfolio businesses, refinancings, restructurings and the sourcing of new investment opportunities. Here you will work with senior management both within Macquarie as well as at portfolio companies to identify and pursue transaction opportunities and support the execution of strategic value creation initiatives.

Operating as a key part of the deal team, you will work closely with Macquarie colleagues and external advisors in sourcing, screening, assessing and negotiating of transactions. You will be responsible for the development of financial models, performing valuations and detailed due diligence, also including engaging in day-to-day liaison with third-party advisors. You will prepare investment papers for approval by the investment committee to ensure they make successful investment decisions in line with Macquarie's investment strategy.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Build and run detailed financial models and associated analysis, for potential acquisitions as well as existing investments;
  • Work with senior investment professionals to pursue potential acquisitions, assist with due diligence and other analysis;
  • Conduct desktop research on potential acquisitions and sector themes;
  • As part of asset management of existing investments, develop strategic direction and business plans, monitor financial and operational performance, and identify potential improvements;
  • Preparing investment approval documents and presenting to investment committee;
  • Liaising with key counterparties including advisers, lenders and corporate representatives;
  • Staying abreast of key market trends / developments across asset classes and sub-sectors, including monitoring the activities and performance of competitor companies.

The Candidate

With likely a first-rate academic background, you will have two to five years of M&A experience gained most probably within another equity investor or, possibly, a leading investment bank or strategy consultancy. You will bring transaction experience with advanced financial modelling and analytical skills and the ability to critically appraise companies, their markets, key value drivers and growth opportunities as well as risks. Smart, thoughtful and commercial, you will have strong written and oral communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
