The role

Responsible for managing all aspects of the non-technical financial close process including analysis of the monthly and quarterly administrative expenses and maintaining SOX processes and controls.

Key accountabilities
  • Oversee and coordinate the monthly non-technical close process including processes such as payroll postings, bank reconciliations, prepayments, fixed assets, accruals and other corporate transactions
  • Oversee the accounts payable function, processing and approval of invoices and employee expenses and approval of new suppliers in the Oracle and SAP Concur applications
  • Responsible for the calculation and monitoring of intercompany balances in accordance with intra-group service agreements
  • Provide timely and accurate data and analysis to the group reporting team for inclusion in management reports, board presentations and investor materials in accordance with group timetables
  • Responsible for coaching and developing junior accountants and reviewing work performed during the month and quarter end close process
  • Assist where necessary with the annual business plan and reforecasting for corporate expenses
  • Liaise with internal and external audit ensuring the timely completion of reviews and compliance with applicable accounting standards
  • Monitor, maintain and improve internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Keep the CFO/Financial Controller fully informed of the status of the projects assigned, as well as relevant accounting-related issues that may arise from such projects
  • Ad hoc projects as required

Skills & experience
  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • 3-5 years' post qualification experience preferably gained in an insurance/reinsurance environment
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of applications with advanced Excel skills
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of US GAAP
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting software (previous experience with Oracle and SAP Concur preferred but not required)
  • Advanced and proven financial, analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the finance team and other key stakeholders across different functions within the organization
