The Role: Director Custom Index Management

The Location: Dallas, USA

The Team: The Custom Index Management team manages a wide range of indices for custom clients. They cover multiple asset classes - equity, commodities, and multi-asset indices.

The Impact: The Director Custom Index Manager will be the lead index manager for a range of custom indices and Benchmark Administration (BA) indices and be responsible for all aspects of index management from daily maintenance, corporate actions, ad-hoc client requests and rebalance. These indices will be calculated via spreadsheet, scripting, and S&P DJI's proprietary platforms. He will also focus on analytical research on the BA indices to ensure that the indices meet the index objectives.

Responsibilities:
The Director Custom Index Manager will be a subject matter expert, an example and escalation point for more junior team members and a back-up for the team leader.
In addition, the Director Custom Index Manager will be required to:
  • Preparing and calculating custom indices, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of real-time and end-of-day index data to clients and end users
  • Ensure corporate actions affecting constituents in each assigned index are correctly applied in the SPDJI proprietary system according to index methodology. Validate special treatments for index specific items
  • Perform analytical research on companies to determine the composition of assigned indices, interpreting complex index methodology and adjusting data in our calculation system, and adjusting the data to conform to the rules of the index.
  • Perform index rebalances by interpreting index methodology, running models and research for adds/drops, implementing changes and communicating these appropriately to clients, all with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Take responsibility for the management of high profile indices, acting as an industry expert and displaying in-depth knowledge of our product lines.
  • Manage and maintain key relationships with other groups within the department and across other departments, particularly Product Management, Client Coverage, Index Services and IT Support
  • Work in close coordination with the technology group and production support group to further enhance our system capabilities
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The projects involve; requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of data, and documentation
  • Must demonstrate an ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and platforms
  • Must have the ability to train new and current employees on best-practices for index management
What We're Looking For:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree. CFA or Advanced degree in business, math, economics, or finance strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience working with financial indices, equity analysis, research, asset management or data analysis.
  • Understanding of global financial markets.
  • Must be able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Must have experience working with large date sets using Excel VBA & Python
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner
  • Strong programming skills and experience preferably in Python
  • Knowledge of vendor terminals and vendors data and analytical platforms
Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $170,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus. This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits.
