The Role: Director, Lead Analyst - North America Nonbank Financial Institutions

Grade/Level ( relevant for internal applicants only ): 13

S&P Global Ratings is seeking a Director to join its North America Nonbank Financial Institutions (NBFI) team based in our New York office. In this role, the Director will be responsible for leading end-to-end rating process, research, and client-facing activities for new issuer ratings and surveillance of non-bank financial institution credits (predominantly specialty finance companies).

Responsibilities:
  • Take analytical and managerial responsibility for a small team (pod) of credit analysts and a portfolio of about 45-50 specialty finance company issuers in North America
  • Lead and coach a pod of associate directors, associates, and support analysts.
  • Maintain surveillance as primary analyst on a portfolio of up to 10 high profile ratings.
  • Manage workflows and resources for the pod, including surveillance activity, analytic reviews, engagements, and the related publishing both within the pod and across our broader NBFI ratings team in conjunction with our other pod leaders.
  • Review, critique, and provide analytic inputs and feedback on analysis, modelling and publishing performed by the team.
  • Develop technical and behavioral skills of pod-members.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with issuers and other stakeholders.
  • Represent S&P Global at meetings with senior management of existing or new clients as well as at education meetings or seminars on analytical matters.
  • Chair rating committees and global industry force task groups focused on specialty finance companies
  • Demonstrate strong analytical excellence and thought leadership to internal and external audiences and maintain and enhance the quality and timeliness of our analysis.
  • Analyze original, non-routine or complex credit stories in a timely and insightful manner and present findings and opinions to a credit rating committee.
  • Assure that analytical guidelines, operational procedures and policies are adhered to by the analytical staff.
  • Lead/contribute to methodology development and other continuous improvement initiatives as required.
  • Prepare a variety of material suitable for publication on S&P Global's credit portal and other media (such as rating reports, press releases, and commentaries) on a timely basis.
  • Lead investor outreach and analytical education activities as required.
Your Skills: The successful candidate will possess the ability to lead and inspire others under pressure, be able to think strategically, and be a natural problem solver. They will also enjoy coaching others, be a strong team player and be driven by results.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree level in a relevant business-related field (Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or Mathematics). A relevant Master's degree, CFA or financial qualification would be desirable.
  • 10 or more years of experience either with S&P or including previous experiences at large commercial bank, investment bank, investing institution, or other credit institutions, working in the field of credit or financial analysis of U.S. and/or Canadian companies.
  • Have a good track record of managing or coaching people.
  • Have very strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of financial statements and accounting concepts.
  • Strong track record of both preparing and interrogating forecasts will be required.
  • Be numerate and accurate with figures and detail oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy whilst complying with potentially tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to represent S&P Global Ratings at meetings with issuers and investors and at seminars in a highly professional manner.
  • The ability to work both independently and within a team environment is critical.
  • Be willing to travel, sometimes at short notice.
  • Be computer literate having strong Excel/Word/PowerPoint and database application skills.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $125,900 to $250,300 . Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
