Job Description
Morgan Stanley is seeking a Vice President or Executive Director to join the US economics team, reporting to the Chief US Economist, based in New York.

The economist in this position will be responsible for a variety of analyses, building econometric models to understand/explain US macroeconomic trends and developments, high frequency data forecasting, participating in proprietary and collaborative research projects, as well as delivering views to internal and external clients.

Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Analyzing and reporting on US macroeconomic data and business cycle developments
  • Building and maintaining econometric models
  • Maintaining and developing proprietary macro indicators and forecasting models for the US
  • Producing research reports and model forecasts on a regular basis
  • Participating in proprietary and collaborative research projects, which may include survey work and ad-hoc modeling as well as work with sector analysts and macro strategists
  • Handling internal and external client requests
  • Participating in weekly conference calls and attending morning sales and trading meetings


Qualifications:

  • PhD in Economics; strong academic background in macroeconomics, econometrics, and statistics a must
  • Technical expertise with coding/econometric software (one or multiple of the following: Eviews, R, Python, Matlab, Stata)
  • Deep knowledge of BEA and BLS data
  • 5+ years of private industry/field experience strongly preferred
  • Advanced business writing skills; ability to produce clear and concise written English
  • High level of initiative to perform in unstructured and stressful situations
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment
