The Investment Counselor Grp Mgr is accountable for management of complex/critical/large professional disciplinary areas. Leads and directs a team of professionals. Requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas within a function and how they interact in order to achieve the objectives of the function. Applies in-depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Generally accountable for delivery of a full range of services to one critical business segment. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Extensive external communication will be necessary. Accountable for the end results of an area. Exercises control over resources, policy formulation and planning. Involved in short- to medium-term planning of actions and resources for own area. Lead transformation of the team culture to meet the evolving needs of the CGW organization and increasing expectations from stakeholders and clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead growth in investment revenue and AUMs with Affluent and HNW clients. Experienced in constructing and overseeing investment portfolios as well as in delivering advice and guidance on markets and actionable investment ideas. Credibility to cultivate trusting, productive relationships with key partners throughout Citi Global Wealth and the wider Citi. Entrepreneurial and capable of bringing in new investment relationships to the bank. They will have an exceptional understanding of, and ability to communicate, the full range of investment themes, products and services CGW offers to clients, including, though not limited to, capital market solutions, and traditional and alternative investments.
  • Candidates for this position will be able to instill collaborative and team-oriented behavior, and to leverage a wide array of product and other specialists, as well as other divisions within Citi, to broaden investment relationships and add the most value to clients. Understand how to align products and other investment solutions with asset allocation targets, risk management parameters and client goals.
  • As the CGW product platforms are unusually broad and deep, the candidate must have a strong ability to coach experienced ICs and colleagues in the best ways to apply products to serve clients. CGW employs a team-based client coverage model, and the candidate will demonstrate an ability to partner very closely and effectively with management colleagues in order to coach, support and motivate client-facing professionals. Demonstrating such partnership with the Sales Heads, and with other product leaders in Investments and beyond, is essential.
  • For those clients covered directly by the candidate, function as the primary client contact and trusted investment advisor for clients.
  • Implement a strategic advisory approach to account planning, focusing on the investment relationship in partnership with the Banker
  • Arrange and lead regular investment and business reviews with assigned clients.
  • Partner with Bankers to prospect for new investment business
  • Understand the investment needs of assigned clients (i.e. return expectation, risk appetite, time horizon, liquidity needs, etc.) and ensure that positions are in line with client risk profiles.
  • Recommend strategic and tactical asset allocation in line with CGW house view
  • Oversee and coordinate the portfolio construction and implementation of investment mandates across all appropriate internal resources such as the CGW Strategy Team and CGW Product Teams etc.
  • Provide direct and active ongoing portfolio advice to assigned client
  • Uncover needs that are not clearly expressed by the client
  • Be able to advise and influence clients, overcome objections and demonstrate the confidence to close significant business.
  • Lead investment discussions and presentations in one-on-one settings, in small groups, and with larger audiences.
  • Communicate complex technical details easily and consistent with the level of sophistication of the client or sales team member.
  • Diplomacy and influence skills to build partnerships and succeed in a highly decentralized, matrixed and entrepreneurial business model
  • Demonstrates resilience and ability to thrive and deliver results in a high pressure, global, rapidly changing and often ambiguous environment
  • Exemplify the highest standards of conduct in all their professional activities and will faithfully observe the letter and spirit of Citi's policies and principles.
  • Knowledge of and ability to communicate capital markets strategies (equity, fixed income, FX derivatives, rates, credit, structured products) with clients.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Robust experience in providing investment advice and solutions as well as managerial experience.
  • Bachelor's degree; Robust experience in providing investment advice and solutions as well as managerial experience.
  • Prior managed investment experience with a strong ability to explain and implement asset allocation and individual asset classes. Ability to articulate and advocate the house view of CGW as well as the investments Citi recommends.

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
