About Us

Wellington Management offers comprehensive investment management capabilities that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets. Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 60 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

We are transitioning to a hybrid work environment where both remote work and the office play a critical role. Our vision is a future where all employees are empowered to work flexibly to drive the best outcomes for our clients. Flexible work is a mindset and a core value. Our employees are encouraged to work remotely two days a week as a standard practice and will have flexibility in terms of working hours.

About the Role

Wellington has a well-established, and growing, Alternative Investments platform, which is approximately $30bn in size, across a broad range of public and private markets strategies.

Within this, the firm has a large, and growing, presence in alternative credit investing. Total assets are currently $4.5bn, across multiple underlying funds, including our flagship long/short credit hedge fund, Wellington Credit Strategies (AUM of US$1bn), which utilizes a multi-manager process consisting of four experienced, diverse, and skilled Portfolio Managers, who have over 100 years of cumulative trading experience. The fund employs a fundamental research-based strategy to identify attractive long and short situations in liquid, public credit markets. Portfolio Managers are given independence and autonomy to identify opportunities across their areas of expertise, including performing credit long/short, capital structure, catalyst situations, liquidity-driven dislocations, and tactical opportunities.

ROLE

To ensure that we continue to exceed our clients' investment expectations, we are seeking to recruit an Analyst to join the WCS team, based in London, Boston or New York. The successful candidate will be fundamentally research driven, and will have experience of some or all of the following - corporate credit, bonds, single-name CDS, single-name equities, and various derivative instruments for active implementation and hedging purposes. They will have an event-driven lean, and will be able to work collaboratively with other Credit and Equity Analysts across the firm for idea generation.

The following essential skills are required for the role:
  • Investment acumen and track record - the Analyst will have strong credit expertise (ideally including long/short) and the willingness/ability to generate investment recommendations across sectors, asset classes, and geographies. They will have a demonstrated track record of expressing idiosyncratic credit views in the market, which translate into positive alpha in portfolios. They will exhibit a deep fundamental, bottom-up research approach, supported by a strong investment philosophy and process;
  • Good collaboration skills - the successful candidate will enjoy being an individual contributor within a collaborative team, and will embrace the benefits of overlapping lines of idea generation. They will build strong trusting relationships internally with colleagues. The ability to take risk and challenge investment views is critical, as is the humility to admit mistakes, and a desire to learn from others. They must recognize the benefits of diverse perspectives. The ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing) action-oriented opinions clearly and with conviction, and contribute to an open investment dialogue, is crucial;
  • Growth mindset - the Analyst will possess the flexibility and openness to continue learning, evolving and growing as an investor. The successful candidate will ideally have a global perspective, and a creative approach for thinking about innovation and the next generation of the investment industry, and the evolution of credit markets.
QUALIFICATIONS

Additional qualifications and characteristics are likely to include:

* Excellent academic credentials. An advanced degree or relevant professional qualification (e.g. CFA), or progress towards one, would be viewed favorably;

* A minimum of three years of credit research experience, gained on either the the Buy side or Sell side, including HY and/or long/short experience;

* Well-articulated research approach, supported by rigorous analysis;

* The ability communicate complex investment ideas effectively;

* Intellectual curiosity and flexibility in thinking;

* Fiduciary and client-oriented mindset.

Please note that we are only able to respond to successful applicants.

Not sure you meet 100% of our qualifications? That's ok. If you believe that you could excel in this role, we encourage you to apply and welcome a chance to review your background. We are dedicated to building and maintaining a diversified workforce and considering a broad array of candidates with a variety of skill, workplace experiences, and backgrounds.
