About Index & Data Solutions (IDS)

The Index & Data Solutions team (IDS) is responsible for sourcing the index and market data that support the firm's flagship investment and risk management products and services as well as managing the relevant commercial relationships, focusing on fostering & maintaining strong partnerships with the largest and most strategic index and data providers. To do this well, IDS also works closely with key internal business stakeholders to ensure we maintain strong alignment on business strategy and partner effectively to resolve challenges.

IDS is comprised of three functions: Relationship Management, Operations and COO & Governance. The team is looking for a Vice President to join the Relationship Management function who will contribute meaningfully to managing the relationships with our core strategic index and data providers and be responsible for developing a robust vendor risk and performance management program. The best candidate for this role will understand the importance of our firm's culture & principles in driving execution, and how to "connect the dots" across businesses & functions throughout the firm to achieve the best commercial outcomes with high vendor partnership and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serving as an advisor to business units in the development of data strategies and as a partner in addressing questions and resolving issues surrounding index and market data.
  • Developing constructive relationships with our key index and data providers by building mutually beneficial commercial engagements.
  • Partnering closely with our Legal team and senior management to ensure contracts with our index and market data providers include favorable terms at the lowest risk and optimal cost.
  • Holding index and market data providers accountable for service delivery according to agreed expectations
  • Negotiating and driving to conclusion the market data contract process with vendors ensuring relevant business needs are covered and fees are clearly documented
  • Monitoring upcoming contract renewals and expirations
  • Providing guidance regarding vendor invoicing & other questions and issues

Required Education and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in finance, business, economics, or related area
  • Minimum of 5 years of provider relationship management & contracting experience

Preferred Education and Skills:
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry
  • Experience in commercial negotiations, data licensing and provider partnerships
  • Deep understanding of the market data/index and portfolio risk landscape and providers
  • Experience with pricing, ratings and other core data vendors
  • Knowledge of vendor risk management frameworks, processes and tools


For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $133,000 - $170,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
