THE POSITION
The senior accountant is responsible for financial control work with a particular focus on Japan entity, including the
monthly accounting close, internal and external financial reporting requirements, tax filing support, account payable,
client billing as well as financial analysis. This is a replacement position, and the ideal candidate will be willing to learn
quickly to take on the financial control work of the Japan entity from the predecessor as well as working closely with
other Finance & Administration team members in Tokyo, London and Boston. This position will be based in our
Tokyo office. It is expected that the responsibilities will evolve to cover broader APAC entities in the future.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities of this position will include:
- Assume ownership of accounting and reporting for Japan entity by performing and detail reviewing
accounting tasks, such as journal entries and reconciliation, as well as performing financial analysis
- Assist in the preparation and review of various financial statements, including providing external audit support
for Japan entity
- Perform tax filing and compliance work for Japan entities
- Perform regulatory reporting for Japan
- Monitor regulatory compliance as well as tax compliance for Japan
- Assist in maintaining effective working relationships with external advisors, particularly external Tax advisors
- Perform client management fee calculation and billing for Japanese clients
- Perform Accounts Payable tasks for Japan entity in Japanese
- Maintain technical knowledge in the applicable IFRS and Japan accounting and reporting standards
- Assist preparation of management reporting for Japan business
- Ensure procedure documentation is prepared and maintained
- Recommend design and implement process improvements, efficiencies and internal controls
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with the rest of APAC Finance &Administration members and
global colleagues based in London and the US
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of previous working experience with at least 3 years of relevant experience in accounting
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting with strong academic credentials and/or a CPA (or CPA candidate)
is preferred
- Both written and verbal business level Japanese and English language skill required
- Proven ability to master new tasks quickly, coupled with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Proactiveness to learn and move things forward
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated ability to leverage technology to improve processes and financial controls; experience with
Workday financials enterprise wide system is a plus
- Proven experience in ensuring a strong financial control environment
- Prior working experience in a global organization is preferred
- Communication skills, including written and verbal presentation elements
- Ability to work collaboratively across functional teams and skill level
