Job Description

The Institutional Relationship Manager is a key client-facing role within the Institutional Business that also sits on the Institutional Direct-Consultant Relations team.  Brown Advisory’s U.S. Direct Institutional team is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with institutional clients (such as pension funds, endowments, foundations, health care organizations, insurance companies) and investment consultants who use Brown Advisory’s proprietary equity and fixed income strategies. 

Each Relationship Manager is responsible for institutional clients for whom they are the primary contact.  The Relationship Manager interacts externally with investment decision-makers and centers of influence at each client, and their consultant.  The Relationship Manager maintains relationships with the investment consultants employed by the clients, and in this aspect works closely internally with the Consultant Relations team.  Additional internal teams with whom the Relationship Manager works closely include Institutional Relationship Associates (InstRA), Investment Compliance Solutions (ICS), Reporting and Business Intelligence (RBI), Legal and Compliance, Messaging and the Equity and Fixed Income Investment Teams.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and deepen relationships with client investment decision-makers and influencers through proactive, regular and thoughtful outreach.
  • Provide clients excellent service, meeting their specific needs in a timely and complete way, exceeding client expectations.
  • Offer clients access to all of Brown Advisory’s institutional investment strategies and specialized investment insight.
  • Maintain thorough familiarity with Brown Advisory’s institutional investment strategies.
  • In partnership with the Consultant Relations team, develop new business from existing or new clients.
  • Lead efforts to build Brown Advisory’s brand in the industry by participating in client sponsored events and conferences.
  • Work with clients and internal operations teams to complete all investment, operational, and compliance due diligence questionnaires.
  • Arrange and facilitate virtual and in-person meetings between clients and the investment team.
  • Provide and explain investment performance to clients on a recurring basis.
  • Speak to clients about market dynamics and trends that may impact their portfolio performance.
  • Set goals for client related activity, and implement plan to achieve goals.
  • Document all client related activity in Salesforce
  • Present client activity and metrics to the Director of Relationship Management on a recurring basis.
  • Manage and lead the onboarding process with the support of the Relationship Associate team.
  • Work with the Institutional Relationship Associate team on administrative and operational client matters.
  • Assist in remediating client issues and escalate as appropriate.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work in Brown Advisory’s Baltimore office
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years total experience, ideally in the investment management business
  • Ability to think strategically and embrace change
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated; strong interest in continuous learning
  • Superior client service and relationship management skills
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and an orientation to-wards the achievement of team goals
  • Outstanding organizational skills, effective time management
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and solve problems
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Prefer candidate who is able to use Advent APX, FactSet, and Salesforce
  • Ability to work in an office location
