About the team:

Come join a diverse and collaborative group of researchers in the Sustainability Research and Modeling team within the Aladdin Sustainability Lab (ASL). As a member of the ASL you will be working with clients and partners to develop the capabilities and products needed to quantify the impact of climate risk and other sustainability factors on financial assets. The Lab brings together research and modelling, analytics, product management, design and engineering teams involved in developing Aladdin Climate.

The Sustainability Research team is focused on building innovative models to assess the financial impacts of climate change, climate policy and energy policy on large number of asset classes - from corporate equity and fixed income, to mortgages, municipal bonds, sovereign debt and alternative investments. As climate risks and sustainable investing become an ever-increasing focus for investors, we are developing the models and analytics to help drive a deeper understanding of risks and outcomes.

About the role:

ASL is looking for a Software Engineer to work on BlackRock's sustainability initiatives. The role will be based in India. The focus will be on sustainability data infrastructure, API, climate risk model implementation, and DevOps processes. You will work closely alongside climate policy experts, quantitative researchers, other software and data engineers, internal and external business stakeholders to deliver our climate and sustainability models as a product to our clients.

This is a key interfacing role between the research team, the application development team, and our clients. You will have broad exposure to BlackRock's financial modeling process involving diverse types of data and asset classes. Through this role, you will help deliver a product that has the potential to reshape industry's response to sustainability issues.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Design and implementation of data and compute APIs as well as associated backend for sustainability models and data, especially related to climate risk
  • Design and onboard storage and compute infrastructure to address ongoing modeling and research needs in sustainability
  • Work with the research team and product owners to implement sustainability models and deploy to production
  • Work with product management on planning and execution. Communicate across teams on project delivery

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or other quantitative disciplines such as physics, or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive experience writing performance-critical code in C++ (exposure to modern C++ such as C++14 a plus)
  • Working experience with Unix-like operating system and shell scripting
  • Experience with SQL or equivalent
  • Able to communicate and collaborate effectively in a diverse team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt
  • Knowledge about climate science, sustainability and sustainable investing is a plus

Our benefits

To help you stay energized, engaged and inspired, we offer a wide range of benefits including a strong retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive healthcare, support for working parents and Flexible Time Off (FTO) so you can relax, recharge and be there for the people you care about.

Our hybrid work pilot

BlackRock's current hybrid work pilot is designed to help you experience the best of both worlds: the opportunity to connect with colleagues in person and the flexibility to work remotely, with greater time to focus on what's important to you. In line with local health guidance and regulations, employees are generally expected to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home (on average) each week. For some business groups, more time may be required in the office, while greater flexibility may be in place for others. Our "One BlackRock" culture means you'll be supported to collaborate with your new colleagues while bringing your full self to work - wherever you are.

The health, safety and well-being of our people will always be our top priorities; we will continue to monitor local conditions and health advisories in making decisions about our work environments.

About BlackRock

At BlackRock, we are all connected by one mission: to help more and more people experience financial well-being. Our clients, and the people they serve, are saving for retirement, paying for their children's educations, buying homes and starting businesses. Their investments also help to strengthen the global economy: support businesses small and large; finance infrastructure projects that connect and power cities; and facilitate innovations that drive progress.

This mission would not be possible without our smartest investment - the one we make in our employees. It's why we're dedicated to creating an environment where our colleagues feel welcomed, valued and supported with networks, benefits and development opportunities to help them thrive.
