Position Description:

We are seeking a US Economist to join our portfolio management team in our Newport Beach, CA headquarters. This individual will be expected to contribute to the investment process by working closely with the portfolio managers in formulating the US economic and policy outlook and by quantifying the macro-economic risks that impact markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting thematic research on key macro developments
  • Quantifying key risks to the outlook that impact financial market pricing
  • Forecasting and commenting on the main US economic data releases and monetary policy events
  • Maintaining and updating a detailed US GDP forecast and alternative scenarios
  • Developing and maintaining a suite of econometric models to analyze various aspects of the economy and monetary policy
  • Contributing to PIMCO's Cyclical Forums and to internal and external PIMCO publications on the US economic and policy outlook
  • Interfacing with clients to discuss PIMCO's economic outlook


Position Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Master or Ph.D.) in Economics, or related field
  • Minimum three years of practical work experience in analyzing the US economy and/or financial markets in the private or public sector
  • Solid knowledge of applied econometric methods
  • Practical work experience with EViews, preference for competency with Python
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
