The IMD Student Intern – Energy, Natural Resources & Infrastructure (ENRI) performs entry level investment research and analysis work.  Work involves performing due diligence analysis of potential energy, natural resources, and infrastructure investment opportunities, and assisting with day-to-day monitoring and reporting of the investment portfolio.  Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position reports to the Director of Energy, Natural Resources & Infrastructure.

 

Note:  This position is a full-time, temporary, limited term assignment

 
Benefits of a TRS Investment Management Internship:  This is a paid, full-time position that offers interns the opportunity to gain substantive experience in Investment activities and initiatives.  Interns enjoy the chance to get training and mentoring from experienced professionals in ENRI. 

This position is scheduled to start on June 5, 2023 and will end on August 11, 2023.  We require that all IMD interns live in Austin, Texas for the duration of their internship..


Salary will be dependent upon education level:


Undergraduate Student (Senior) - $35/hour

5 Year Master’s Student - $40/hour

MBA Student - $60/hour


 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
 

Investment Research and Analysis

·       Assists in performing investment analysis for potential investment opportunities, including principal investments and fund commitments, using any reliable printed or electronic media, partnership offering memoranda, and one-on-one contact with general and limited partners.

·       Provides timely written or oral reports of analysis and recommendations to Investments staff and management.

·       Communicates analysis of investment opportunities, results, and recommendations with the relevant portfolio managers(s) and/or senior staff via verbal and written reports and presentations; including preparing qualitative and quantitative reports, memoranda, and spreadsheets.

·       Assists in conducting investment research on various companies, industries, or countries.

·       Assists investment managers in performing due diligence research and analysis for potential private and public investment opportunities.

·       Assists in conducting reference checks and evaluating the organization’s leadership team, strategy, market opportunity, historical and pro-forma financials, operations, and competitive environment.

Portfolio Management

·       Consults or coordinates with investment managers, analysts, investment accounting, legal counsel, custodian, and third-party advisors and consultants.

·       Assists in evaluating portfolio diversification by geography, strategy, and investment style.

·       Assists with the development, monitoring, and reporting of diverse portfolio investments.

·       Assists with reporting related performance, risk, and other ad hoc reports related to the Energy, Natural Resources & Infrastructure portfolio.

·       Works with TRS portfolio management systems such as DealCloud and Power BI.

 

Projects and Communication

  • Conducts projects with support from ENRI team
  • Participates in group projects as assigned.
  • Consults or coordinates with investment managers, analysts, investment accounting, legal counsel, operations, custodian, and third-party advisors and consultants.
  • Ensures that the agency Ethics Policy is adhered to in relationships with general partners, external managers, brokers, research suppliers, and other vendors.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Minimum Required Qualifications
 

Education:

·       Must be currently enrolled in and actively attending an undergraduate degree program with a major in business administration, finance, accounting, operations research, math, information technology, liberal arts or a related area, at an accredited college or university, and must complete their junior year (90 hours) by the start of the internship OR must be currently enrolled in and actively attending a graduate program in finance, accounting, business administration or a related area.

  • GPA at or above 3.25

·       Applicant will be required to submit a copy of official college transcripts.

Experience:

·       None.

 

Registration, Certification, or Licensure:

·       None.

 Preferred Qualifications

 

·       Experience or education in institutional investment research, accounting, financial analysis, statistical analysis, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

· Investment concepts, terminology, styles, models, strategies, and fundamental investment factors.

· Statistical concepts, methods, and models, and their application to investments.

Skill in:

 · Using a computer in a Windows environment with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and other business software to prepare correspondence, spreadsheets, charts, and reports.

 · Conducting data searches and evaluations of large amounts of information, performing complex statistical analysis of the data, and preparing concise and accurate reports and written/oral recommendations.

 · Planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and changing environment, and in completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.

 · Verbal and written communication of complex information that is accurate, timely, and based on sound judgment

Ability to:

 · Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.

 · Work effectively in a professional team environment.
