Legal & General Capital (LGC) is the principal investment arm of Legal & General Group Plc (L&G). It was founded in 2013 and has a mandate to:
  • Actively invest L&G's own balance sheet to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns for its shareholders
  • Invest in sectors which drive positive change in society

Housing is a major focus within LGC and we are looking for a Senior Investment Associate to join the LGC Housing team during an exciting period of growth. LGC Housing's investment approach is to establish and invest in housing platforms, but the team will also selectively consider direct real estate investment through joint venture structures.

LGC has already successfully built and are currently scaling a number of market-leading businesses including L&G Affordable Homes, CALA (UK Top 10 housebuilder) and Inspired Villages, delivering retirement villages across the UK as well as other strategic investments in modular housebuilding and the single and multi-family build to rent sectors. The business is supported in its ambitions to grow the platform further, including international expansion.

You will be a key contributor to scaling the platform and will benefit from:

What you'll be doing

nderwriting
  • Develops, reviews and challenges complex financial models with ability to assess absolute and relative return metrics and draw conclusions from the model
  • Ability to assess a business plan or opportunity (qualitative and quantitative) and present findings to senior team
  • Ability to conduct due diligence workstreams and consider impact on underwrite


Market Research and Strategy
  • Materially inputs into strategy and research papers, and identifies where further analysis is required
  • Presents, with guidance, a strategy / investment thesis
  • Builds internal and external network to inform knowledge of market


Transaction Execution
  • Actively participates in due diligence meetings with management teams and advisors
  • Ability to consider how to structure an investment and support on negotiating new transactions
  • Oversees and manages specific external parties (lawyers, tax advisors) and internal stakeholders
  • Materially contributes to LGC Investment Committee memos (including strategy papers and investment recommendations)
  • Coordinates specific execution workstreams and broader project management


Investment Management
  • Supports the senior team in dealing with operational matters, monitoring performance, reviewing board materials and shareholder approval requests for existing investments/joint ventures
  • Disciplined financial analysis, modelling and performance monitoring at the asset and sector level, and reporting key performance information to the investment team order to drive well informed and value-enhancing decisions
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of entire Housing portfolio across risks, opportunity and financial performance.
  • Coordinates with various stakeholders in the group (including Finance, Legal and Risk) with respect to monitoring ongoing investments
  • Builds strong relationships with our management teams

What we're looking for
  • Relevant work experience across principal investing, investment funds / trusts, corporate finance and / or M&A, preferably with some exposure to the real estate and / or housing sectors
  • Professional financial or real estate qualification desirable
  • Strong and demonstrable track record of interacting well with a wide range of stakeholders with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Track record of managing transaction workstreams with the ability to identify risks and concerns
  • Solid depth and breadth of modelling skills and can run accurate underwriting models, both asset and corporate level
  • Energetic, highly motivated individual with an interest to learn and progress
