Quantitative Research Analyst, New Product Development and Research

The Role:
S&P Global Market Intelligence is seeking a Quantitative Research Analyst to support the New Product Development and Research Team. The successful hire will have deep financial market experience, knowledge of statistical hypothesis testing, and experience with empirical research. This position reports to the Senior Director of Research, and will sit on the New Product Development and Research team within Company Information Services (CIS), a part of the Data, Valuation, and Analytics (DVA) organization with S&P Global Market Intelligence.

The Team:
Members of the S&P Global New Product Development and Research Team are experts in conceiving and building client solutions. Spanning public and private markets, the team leverages data inside the S&P Global data ecosystem and enriches it with new external data to create novel solutions that inform the client workflow. Client use cases span investment management, investment banking, private markets, commercial banking and insurance, and non-financial corporate and professional services. The team operates as part of Company Information Services, which provides data and analytics that enable clients to make important decisions. Team members are well regarded by colleagues throughout the organization and can expect to collaborate with other teams including data science, technology, quantitative analytics, research signals, and others.

The Impact:
The New Product Development and Research (NPDR) team brings industry leading products to market, which enhance client workflows in investment management, investment banking, private markets, commercial banking and insurance, and non-financial corporate and professional services. Within NPDR, the research group demonstrates the value of new product by testing research hypotheses and publishing results in white paper form. Additionally, the research group develops cutting edge capabilities that enable new product creation via derived data.

Successful candidates will have experience with and understanding of client workflows, data characterization, and the research process. In addition, candidates should be able to work well in a team, be highly self-motivated with the ability to execute independently. This position will develop investment solutions in public and private markets and develop proof statements to support the client use case for data products. Research team members will coordinate with new product developers to tailor a research agenda focused on monetizable products and supporting products within the CIS business.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct hands-on, actionable innovative research around new products created by the team. Demonstrate via statistical proofs the value proposition of new products and publish results in white paper format.
• Develop capabilities that enable new product creation, such as machine learning models, natural language processing, unstructured data processing.
• Collaborate with NPDR team on new product initiatives, including feedback on prototype results and the research agenda.
• Present results at sponsored industry events and webinars.
• Participate in client visits, in collaboration with sales, as a subject matter expert to promote new and existing CIS products.

What We're Looking For:
• Bachelors or Masters in Statistics, Physical Sciences, Finance, or Technology required
• CFA preferred
• Experience in Machine Learning, NLP, data science preferred
• Will consider candidates with different levels of experience including new graduates
• Strong technical / programming skills in high level language. Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Familiarity with PySpark / DataBricks / AWS and experience with large datasets is a plus
• Able to establish credibility with clients and fellow team members around research topics
• Ability to create a research framework with the assistance of senior team members to validate a proposed use case
• Organized and detail oriented
• Excellent presentation skills
• Intellectual curiosity and inquisitiveness
• Ability to explain complex investment concepts in simple terms

Grade/Level (relevant for internal applicants only): 10-12
