The Columbia Threadneedle Investments Intern Program is designed to provide students with first-hand investment management experience. The Integrated Equity Team is a team of 12 portfolio managers and analysts managing over $10B in AUM. The team integrates fundamental perspectives and quantitative techniques to manage US and International Equity portfolios using a disciplined, repeatable investment process.

About the Columbia Threadneedle Internship Program:
Our 11-week summer intern program provides real-life experience in a collaborative and inclusive environment. As a Columbia Threadneedle intern, you will gain exposure to senior leaders, cultivate your business acumen, work on projects that directly impact the business, and network in a supportive, team-based atmosphere. In addition, you will have access to our Business Resource Networks, including the Black Employee Network, Young Professionals Network, PRIDE Network, and others.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist with the team's quantitative R&D efforts to enhance the team's investment process and tools. This may involve building out a new quantitative factor that captures a fundamental insight or designing data-driven tools to complement existing ones. The intern will be expected to work independently with large datasets using a statistical programming language like R/Python, while actively collaborating with all members of the team to solicit guidance and leverage relevant expertise.

Examples of past intern projects include:
  • Developing a valuation factor which seeks to identify companies that trade at a discount relative to what is justified by the return-on-equity each company generates.
  • Creating a factor that assesses the fundamental strength of each company by estimating intangible capital acquired through cumulative expenses in efforts to build such assets.
  • Building a proprietary tool that assesses different market regimes and quantifies how different equity factors perform across different regimes.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Junior at a 4-year university pursuing a bachelor's degree in quantitative finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, statistics, machine learning, or related field
  • Graduation date of December 2023 or May/June 2024
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Programming skills in R, Python, SQL, VBA, or similar

Preferred Qualifications

  • High degree of self-motivation with strong integrity and ethics
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work and communicate collaboratively with others
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High level of intellectual curiosity and aptitude for solving complex problems
  • Research or work experience where the primary responsibility involved the application of statistics, machine learning, or other analytical tools to build quantitative models
