OPTAS CAPITAL, Hybrid work in either Austin, TX or San Francisco, CA

Optas Capital is seeking an experienced Chief Investment Officer with extensive knowledge of investment management for their wealth management firm with $600M+ AUM. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of strategic decision making, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be an effective team player. The individual selected will have a wide variety of investment-related responsibilities including discovery and due diligence of portfolio managers (including alternatives and non-diversified private investments, portfolio construction, investment monitoring, and liaison with investment managers). The position will assist with the development of our proprietary capital market assumptions, and contribute to the firm’s economic and market forecasts. This role will report to both the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer.

Regular Duties:

Investment Strategy

  • Head of Investment Committee
  • Responsible for model portfolio construction and on‐going management, including considerations such as asset class selection, weighting, geographic tilts, factor tilts and modeling based on client demographics and goals

Due Diligence

  • Separately Managed Account strategies
  • Alternative investments
  • Client sourced seed round investments
  • ETFs and mutual funds

Investment Communications

  • Prepare client focused quarterly markets review
  • Write client‐focused timely investment communications
  • Interact with clients and advisors on investment related topics via webinars, video and in‐person events
  • Contribute to the development and preparation of monthly and quarterly investment commentaries, forecasts and investment memos for both internal and external audiences;

Advisor & Client Support

  • Support advisors with research, analysis and presentation materials to address client questions and areas of interest
  • Support business development activities by analyzing a prospect’s current investments, articulating the value of Optas’s investment solution and demonstrating Optas’s depth and competence in investment management
  • Develop investment focused training curriculum for new advisors
  • Provide on‐going investment education to the entire team
  • Serve as the “go to person” for advisors who have investment related questions
  • Attend relevant client meetings and discuss investment strategy

Other Duties

  • Review and analyze a diverse range of investment related materials including financial statements, industry trends, cap tables, projections, third party reports and proprietary models to evaluate investment opportunities
  • Review LPAs, PPMs, operating agreements to identify and clearly articulate important provisions including fees, expenses, potential conflicts, risks and liquidity provisions
  • Perform industry reviews to develop investment themes and identify investment opportunities
  • Contribute to research and development of investment themes and capital market assumptions
  • Serve as liaison to selected investment managers to coordinate diligence calls, gather investment updates and facilitate questions and answers related to investments
  • Coordinate all aspects of the onboarding process with new investment managers

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated history of making strategic investment related decisions and confidence in presenting a point of view
  • Direct management experience preferred
  • Proven ability to communicate complex investment topics to clients with limited investment knowledge, both verbally and written
  • Driven, career‐oriented, wants to be a leader in an entrepreneurial organization
  • Personable, responsive, engaging, and a client first attitude
  • Mature, self‐starter, willing to take complete ownership of areas of responsibility
  • Strong analytical skills and computer skills including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with asset allocation modeling and Monte Carlo simulations
  • Ability to confidently lead meetings with asset managers

Education and Experience:

  • 7+ years investment management experience including experience with end clients
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field
  • CFA preferred or in progress
  • Series 65 licensed (or willing to obtain within first year of employment)
