About this role

The Alternatives Compensation Consultant will be responsible for strategic planning, design, and implementation of compensation programs for BlackRock's Alternatives group, which includes private equity, real assets, private credit, and hedge funds businesses.

As a Compensation Consultant at BlackRock, you will work with a team of professionals in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. The role will support other Total Reward partners to deliver effective solutions and advice to the business on all aspects of BlackRock's compensation programs.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide analytical support for the design and administration of compensation programs as business needs evolve
  • Perform and oversee complex Compensation analyses for presentation to firm-wide Senior Leaders
  • Independently run and project manage adhoc Compensation projects base on business requirements
  • Support Compensation Partners, recruiting team members, and HR Business Partners by drafting competitive compensation offer proposals and tracking process of approvals for new candidates and existing employees
  • Assist with the annual planning, preparation, and process of allocating the corporate bonus pool and base salary budget at year-end
  • Review compensation practices to determine consistency in recognizing performance and market competitive pay
  • Keep track of and synthesize market trends and continuously assess position against industry; report on compensation trends, outcomes and issues as needed
  • Coordinate annual survey participation, which includes assisting with job matching, data submission, and reviewing results.
  • Become a "super-user" of the Compensation System
  • Assist with ad hoc compensation-related inquiries from Compensation Partners, HR Business Partners, and Business Heads
  • Additional duties may include assisting the team in development and implementation of other firm-wide and business-specific initiatives

Skills and Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience in data handling, reporting, and excellent/advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Compensation/Finance experience or related field desired (financial services and/or consulting experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of alternative assets and carried interest preferred
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Extraordinary communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts simply and clearly to clients or partners
  • Organized and detail oriented with strong time management skills
  • Discretion in taking care of confidential information
  • Experience managing senior leadership/stakeholder a plus
  • Capacity to multi-task, balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Able to work independently and meet tight deadlines combined with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter and thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to navigate through ambiguity and remain flexible and adaptable to change in order to provide high impact to the organization.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (e.g., Workday, Oracle, etc.) a plus
