The Role: Associate Director - ESG/ Sustainable Finance

The Location: Hong Kong or Singapore

Grade: 12 (For internal reference only)

Job Description Summary:
Not a job for the fainthearted - We are currently recruiting an Associate Director to join our Sustainable Finance team within our Ratings practice, based preferable in Hong Kong or Singapore . He or she would specifically be working on ESG and sustainable finance assignments and research, and contribute to the development, application and roll out of new products in the ESG and sustainable finance space.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Leading, as a Sustainable Finance specialist, individual assignments on ESG and sustainable financing instruments and frameworks across APAC;
  • Building a subject matter expertise to support ESG in ratings, i.e. interacting with credit rating analytical teams to facilitate the inclusion of appropriate environmental, social, and governance factors in credit risk analysis and industry-based publications;
  • Becoming a spokesperson for the company in external engagements (market outreach and customer interactions);
  • At some point joining the ESG Evaluations and Sustainable Finance Opinions committees as a permanent member;
  • Conducting research and analysis on ESG themes, and how these could impact organisations over the short, medium and long term. This work should result in the publication of commentaries that are widely read by the investment community; and
  • Contributing to the development/enhancement of our analytical methodologies.
The successful candidate should have:

Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's degree within the field of sustainability, finance, social and environmental management.
  • A Financial Services background as well as a science-based qualification would be an asset.
  • Either relevant Master's degree or CFA Charterholder would be a plus.
  • At least 7 years of relevant work experience.
Skills and abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Putonghua would be a plus.
  • You are a confident presenter and enjoy the client facing aspect of the job, as much as doing the research & analytical task yourself
  • Ability to work on Excel to manipulate data from databases with charting, pivot tables and other formulas, such as lookup functions and logical tests.
  • You enjoy putting together and deliver convincing Powerpoint presentations to a large group of audience
  • Ability to work independently and be resourceful, gathering information from various internal and external sources to summarise trends and themes.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
