Operational and Reputational Risk Management

The Operational Risk team within Enterprise Risk is responsible for all aspects of operational risk, including error investigation and resolution, new product and business change risk assessments, risk reporting / analysis, leading risk reducing projects and the maintenance of the operational risk framework, including facilitation of risk and control self-assessments.

This role offers a great opportunity to work closely with the fast-growing BlackRock Alternatives businesses to perform independent due diligence and reputational analysis of private investments made in a variety of structures, jurisdictions and industries (e.g., private equity, infrastructure, real estate, direct lending, etc). Diligence results have visibility at the most senior levels of the organization, including with BlackRock's Chief Risk Officer, Chief Legal Officer and Chief Investment Officers (CIOs).

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will perform all operational risk responsibilities for the Alternatives business with a focus on managing the Private Asset Risk Screening (PARS) process.
  • Build rapport and partner with colleagues in functions across the firm including Portfolio Management, Financial Crime, Litigation, Investment Risk, Fund Accounting, Valuations and Business Operations.
  • Work with deal teams to scope and source third party due diligence reports
  • Leverage vendor applications to mine headlines and develop watchlists to monitor changes at portfolio companies
  • Assist in the build out of the reputational risk program by partnering with Corporate Communication, External Affairs and Marketing
  • Prepare weekly deal pipeline materials and drive discussions on high-risk deals
  • Assist the Reputational Risk Committee coordinator as necessary
  • Triage operating events impacting covered businesses, facilitate annual RCSAs and influence change through process improvements
  • Conduct regular engagement meetings with BlackRock Alternatives business leadership
  • Perform independent analysis of operating metrics to identify themes


Knowledge/Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in financial services, preferably within Risk Management, Investments, Legal or Middle Office
  • Ability to quickly digest complex issues and independently research facts to inform decisions with consequence
  • Excellent analytical capabilities; curiosity, critical thinking, accuracy and problem-solving within a deadline-oriented environment
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to work concurrently on multiple deliverables
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to present complex information succinctly to senior decision makers
  • Good negotiation skills and ability to collaborate with multiple teams so that functional / organizational objectives are achieved
  • BS/BA required, preferably in Finance, Operations Research, Economics or similar technical field
