About this role
BlackRock Fundamental Active Equity:
BlackRock's Fundamental Active Equity (FAE) division manages a full range of equity strategies that span the risk/return spectrum, along with several targeted opportunities in specific market sectors. More than 40 investment teams -consists of portfolio managers, research analysts and traders - manage style-specific portfolios built on BlackRock company research in each major equity asset class.
Role Overview and Impact:
The Deputy CIO will partner with the EM / APAC CIO to manage a diverse team of 50+ investment professionals across multiple offices, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, Seoul, Taipei, London, and New York. The teams consist of our Fundamental Equity Portfolio Management and Research functions.
This role will assist in overseeing the APAC and Emerging Market Equity teams in driving investment performance across the platform, as well as partner closely with relevant client business teams in order to be a key driver of business growth and development.
This is an important role as it will represent the investment teams within both global and regional management forums. As part of the Office of the CIO, a critical element will be execution of the governance processes by which the Fundamental Equity CIO's oversee each business's investment strategies. This is key to driving sustainable investment performance, risk mitigation, as well as advancement of capabilities within the businesses.
The selected candidate will be a versatile, highly collaborative leader who can lead through change. When working across global teams, they will dynamically adapt to local markets, creating rigor and scale. They will lead with a global mentality and champion the APAC and Emerging Market business, ensuring local needs are considered and appropriately prioritized within the global business strategy.
This role reports to the APAC Head of Active Investments and CIO of the FAE Emerging Market business.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and support to the portfolio management and research teams, partnering with the FAE EM CIO to ensure they can deliver successfully on each group's priorities
- Help oversee governance processes to ensure sustainable alpha generation, investment process thoroughness, and risk mitigation. This includes:
- Investment process reviews that evaluate teams on people, process and risk management
- Facilitating portfolio oversight that captures individual portfolio reviews with teams, risk committee presentations, and strategy deep dives
- Driving an investment culture that values investment excellence, long-term thinking and diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ensure robust risk controls exist across all parts of ecosystem. Create a strong culture of risk management
- Be a leader on the deep integration of sustainability into our team's investment process, and fluent in the platforms ESG standing of its strategies and holdings
- Represent the APAC and EM FAE business to strategic clients, regulators, external business partners and senior leaders internally
- Develop deep relationships across functions firmwide in order to effectively scale partnerships
- Create an environment that fosters diversity, inclusivity, emotional ownership, accountability, motivation, and a deep connection to our purpose
- Be a key driver of out talent agenda, including junior bench development, career planning, DEI advancement, training programs, and global connectivity
- Collaborate with global and regional leadership to define the business roadmap and translate into team priorities and empower talent at every level
Skills & Experience Required:
- 15+ years of equity investments expertise and understanding of related processes, regulations, and governance
- Proven leader of leaders, have managed sizable, diverse teams and developed talent bench to meet business objectives
- Excellent risk management and mitigation skills with the ability to proactively identify current and future risks, determine criticality and appropriate action
- Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment in unanticipated situations involving significant fiduciary, operating and investment risks
- Demonstrated bold vision in setting and implementing strategy
- Track record of critical thinking and industry product knowledge, with a global attitude and a strong local advocacy
- The ability to foster an inclusive, equitable environment where a wide diversity of experiences, backgrounds and expertise are valued and incorporated
- Demonstrate the ability to leverage robust global, cross-functional relationships for constant collaboration and partnership
