Purpose
The Fixed Income Associate actively assesses and manages risk to structure and execute transactions in a constantly changing market. This position with be mentored by Sr. Analyst(s) and will take advantage of ongoing learning opportunities provided by Saturna.
Essential job functions:
- Partner with Sr. Analysts to analyze fixed-income instruments in various sectors including investment grade and high yield corporate, sovereign, and municipal bonds.
- Conduct fundamental analysis of individual fixed income issuers focusing on business factors such as: financial performance, governance, ESG metrics, etc.
- Assess broad industry trends such as shifts in competition, regulation, and legislation, and/or general market dynamics with a view towards investment implications.
- Provide research support to other members of the analyst team
- Research coverage for assigned industries, including surveillance of existing security holdings.
- Participate in management calls.
- Support all aspects of the market-making and trade execution process, from providing research analytics on trades to relative value analysis.
- Prepare research reports for presentation of findings to the investment committee
- Handle requests from other departments
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong writing, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to build and maintain relationships at multiple levels, both internally and externally.
- Ability to work in a way that’s independent, proactive, innovative, and creative while exercising sound judgement.
- Ability to, over time, provide unique and differentiated investment insights
- Ability to pass exams for FINRA licenses- i.e., Series 7 or Series 6 and 63
- Proactive with a high level of attention to detail; quick learner who can adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong time management and organization skills; able to maintain a high quality of work in a deadline driven environment.
- Knowledge of Mutual Funds, NSCC / DTCC products, Transfer Agency, Broker Dealers, Trust Companies and Record-Keepers.
- Outstanding MS Word and Excel skills a must, familiarity with Apple computers preferred.
- Candidates must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements such as a logic test, fingerprinting, criminal background and credit check, drug screen and reference check.
Education and Experience:
- BA or BS in business or operations management-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CFA charter-holder or willingness to work towards certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience with mutual funds.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand or sit in a stationary position up to 80% of the time.
- Requires both gross and fine motor skills; Must be able to use computer, printers, phones and other office equipment up to 80% of the time.
- Must be able to hear; understand and distinguish sounds up to 100% of the time.
- Must be able to see; both near and far visual acuity required up to 100% of the time.
- Must be able to speak; verbally communicate with stakeholders up to 100% of the time.
Travel Requirements:
- Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time.
