About the Role:

The PitchBook Institutional Research Group (PIRG) was formed as a dedicated research offering for private market investors, advisors and market participants. This group provides investment strategy, fund performance and industry research through a differentiated, framework-driven approach to ensure consistent and value-added research that our customers can trust. In addition to the regularly occurring reports this group publishes, analysts are expected to develop their own avenues of research and contribute to ideas that will lead to improvements to the overall PitchBook platform.

Our Institutional Research Group is looking for an analyst to join our Fund Strategies team. As a member of a small team, you will have the ability to make a valuable impact, honing your existing analytical skills, develop meaningful insight into a fascinating industry and contribute to our best-in-class private capital research. The research this team produces is utilized by thousands of private capital investors, investment banks and service providers globally. Our team is creative, driven and focused on providing the most actionable research to our readers and clients.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the team’s coverage of fundraising and performance trends in private markets, with an ability to write at a high level about private fund strategies and have a particular focus on real estate and real assets
  • Establish research frameworks to provide independent commentary, evaluations and forecasts around our primary coverage areas, while identifying unique themes that may impact private markets
  • Utilize proprietary PitchBook data, the internet, newspapers, academic white papers, public and private company research notes, economic indicator forecasts, etc. to inform and develop actionable analysis
  • Write and edit research reports as directed by team pipeline and publishing calendar
  • Manage direct-to-client distribution channels for published notes
  • Work closely with PIRG data analysis team to identify unique datasets to support research
  • Develop and manage relationships with both client and non-client industry professionals to help support primary research efforts
  • Manage and respond to inquiries from clients, press, internal colleagues and the general public regarding published research
  • Support written research efforts through speaking engagements such as PitchBook webinars and podcasts
  • Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
  • Participate in company initiatives and projects as requested

 

 Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or Economics preferred
  • Progress toward achieving a CFA designation is a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience in equity research, investment banking or other related financial services role, with a preference for someone with exposure to institutional real estate or real assets investment work
  • Strong interest in private financial markets with a thorough understanding of financial concepts such as valuation techniques (DCF, comps, etc.), cap rates, IRRs, portfolio management, etc.
  • Experience writing long-form data-driven research a plus
  • Critical and analytical thinker
  • Detail-oriented, going-for-the-A mindset appreciated
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience in the PitchBook platform is a plus
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily
