The Role: Metals and Mining Editor

Grade ( relevant for internal applicants only ): 9

The Location: Hong Kong

The Team:

This role is in support of a global team of reporters and editors covering the metals and mining sector as well as energy transition metals. On a daily basis, you will edit stories for accuracy, style and content, adhering to tight deadlines. You will help develop fresh story ideas; deliver sharp, concise content; and prioritize news coverage. You will also use your strong leadership skills to manage and mentor editors and writers in your and other offices.

This position is part of the Metals and Mining news team, which offers timely coverage of the global mining and commodities sectors. Our content reaches an influential readership that includes leading global financial institutions and influential mining companies. Our massive database, with comprehensive coverage of the market, regulatory and corporate data, offers ample opportunities to enhance and drive our reporting.

What's in it for you:

You will manage a small team of reporters across multiple sites that is responsible for delivering, sharp, concise news coverage of the Metals and Mining sector. In addition to some management responsibilities, you will write and edit news articles and features for accuracy, style and content and you will work with other managers on the team to drive proprietary and data-driven news coverage. The manager will also assist with site-level activities for the team including recruiting, training, mentoring and engagement activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Providing management support to small team of reporters
  • Provide daily editing support to global team of reporters
  • Research and write industry news features
What we're looking for:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
  • Proven business journalism experience with a minimum of 3 to 4 years
  • Command of journalistic best practices (AP style, libel issues, etc.). Strong editing skills a must
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Fluency in English necessary
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the mining industry or commodities markets a big advantage
  • Must have an affinity for analysing numbers, using in-house data intelligence, financial reports and other industry information
  • Chinese language proficiency
