The Opportunity

Onfido is scaling rapidly and we're looking for a talented, experienced State Policy Manager to join our US team. Reporting to the Head of North America Government Affairs, your mission is to support the business as a key advisor in monitoring and influencing state and local legislation and regulation and engaging with policymakers on issues of interest. Throughout, you'll collaborate with talented colleagues across the business, including legal, strategy, product, and growth functions.
We are looking for a passionate, driven self-starter to help us in the next chapter of growth at this exciting time. This is a unique opportunity to help shape and scale our policy team to support the business as we continue to expand, and drive our wider business strategy.

As a US State Policy Manager at Onfido you will:
    • Research, monitor, track, and analyze current and proposed state and local legislation, regulations, and policies affecting Onfido, working alongside our privacy team.
    • Actively horizon scan and share analysis of state legislative and regulatory trends to inform business strategy through written and oral presentations.
    • Lead Onfido engagement with state and local policymakers.
    • Represent Onfido in trade associations and other industry groups focused on state policy issues, as the lead on state issues of importance to the business.
    • Work cross-functionally with internal teams to support Onfido's business.
We're looking for a US State Policy Manager who can display the below skills & experience throughout our interview process:
    • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 to 7 years of government or public policy experience, including experience at Federal, State, or local government, trade association, or corporate government affairs.
    • Proven ability to establish relationships with elected and key government staff, business, and trade associations, as well as the state and local lobbying community.
    • Strong political instincts, business acumen, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to emerging issues and dynamics.
    • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify issues/problems and recommend solutions.
    • Experience communicating effectively (both written and verbal) and working with a diverse set of technical and non-technical counterparts and stakeholders.
    • Must show initiative and the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs while working independently.
    • Effective writing, public speaking, collaboration, organization, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated experience working with a state legislature in the areas of data privacy, biometrics, technology, and/or gaming.
    • Knowledgeable about best practices and standards for digital identity, including NIST 800-63.
    • Prior experience working in or with a technology startup company.
