The Advice Supervision Team has a number of key responsibilities including holistic reviews of advisors' practices, targeted account suitability reviews, and multiple other specialized review types designed to ensure accounts are suitable and in our clients' best interests. The team performs direct sales supervision of investment advisory services including Ameriprise Financial Planning Service (AFPS) and assess ongoing suitability of SPS Advantage and SPS Advisor accounts. Contact with advisors, field leaders and clients is required in addition to analysis of information from multiple systems.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of advisory services to determine suitability of service and recommendations, adherence to ADVs and assessment of fee appropriateness.
  • Selection of appropriate targeted client advisory relationships including analysis of all advisory relationships within an advisor's practice to determine those presenting the most risk to our clients and firm.
  • Communicate with advisors and field leaders regarding results of supervisory activity
  • including one-on-one coaching and training
  • Improve advisor policy adherence by proactively identifying advisors with recidivist activity and establishing action plans and measurements to influence change
  • Communicate with clients, when needed, regarding activity to determine suitability.
  • Serve as subject matter expert providing information and/or research to a range of business partners including CSU staff and employees in Legal or Compliance.
  • Be flexible to prioritize multiple competing projects


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and minimum 5 - 7 years relevant work experience
  • 5+ years financial services industry experience with proven success in sales supervision, compliance or other advisor-facing functions
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills; ability to effectively analyze most complex issues. Ability to use strong judgment when making sound, timely independent decisions on complex matters that don't have clear answers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively deliver unfavorable communications involving account suitability, difficult advisor and client conversations, and/discipline discussions with field Registered Principals and other leaders.
  • Strong ability to influence positive advisor behavior through coaching and education utilizing a supportive and consistent approach.
  • Ability to record evidence of supervision in a fact based manner.
  • Strong knowledge of SEC and other regulatory bodies' rules relevant to the applicable product lines Demonstrated strategic thinker.
  • Strong proficiency with computer programs, applicable supervisory systems and tools, and a demonstrated ability to use technology to improve efficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both individually and in a team environment.
  • Additional active licenses or the ability to obtain the following:
  • Active Series 7 required
**Active Series 24 and 63/65 or 66 - or the ability to obtain as follows:
  • These exam licenses, if not actively held, need to be passed within 120 days of start date. If multiple exams are required, they can be done consecutively and an additional 90-day window will be added after successfully passing each exam.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical product knowledge related to managed accounts and/or financial planning
  • Industry designation(s) such as CFP, ChFC or CLU
  • Professional credentials such as MBA or JD
